    Mailing Ammo Question?

What are the laws on my friend mailing me ammo in Texas? She lives in Dallas and I live in Houston and she can get ammo for much cheaper than I can. I was just wondering if there were any laws agains her mailing me a couple of boxes of ammo. Any help would be great, thanks.

As far as I know it has to be shipped as Hazardous material which is gonna jack the price up about another 20.00

I know that USPS will not ship ammo.

    This is per UPS:
"Ammunition must be shipped in accordance with the UPS Guide for Shipping Ground and Air Hazardous Materials, or the UPS Guide for Shipping International Dangerous Goods."

Don't know how much they charge though.

Can be legally sent by UPS Ground, NO haz-mat fees. It must be marked on the outside as ORM-D with approved logo layout (this is Fed law) and declared to shipper as ammo.

UPS rates are so damn high that it's hard to "save money" on a small shipment no matter how close you live.

I am receiving ammo via UPS all the time from various Internet stores. The shipping cost is not particularly expensive, but you can only ship "ground". The packages have a small label "Cartridges, Small Arms, ORM-D" attached, or just the letters "ORM-D" stamped on them. I was only the recipient, never sent out ammo myself. So maybe these online stores have some kind of agreement with UPS. Never seen them using Fedex or USPS.

So in short: it appears to be possible to ship ammo at a reasonable price.

UPS got a page about shipping firearms and ammunition:
    UPS: Shipping Firearms

The packaging I have seen used is not particular special. Just the default manufacturers boxed ammunition inside a larger cardboard box with some padding.

All the above is true. I just shipped ammo for the first time. Really easy. The ORM-D forms can be gotten on line. Search for ORM-D sticker and you will get some that you can print out. No questions or concerns if you follow the basic. Tag the box with the ORM-D sticker and declare when you ship what it is.
