The truest test of any 1911 reliability is to cycle empty cases through the gun manually. I learned this trick from Junior Nowlin of Nowlin of Nowlin firearms back in 1994 after I had all but given up on an old carry gun. He made it run, and told me the trick of cycling empty cases. He told me that the cases should cycle smoothly, with no visible denting on the casemouths. Denting or distortions indicate possible improper barrel fitting and/or feedramp relationship.
