    Remington 125gr. 357mag sjhp?

How much hotter(i.e. noise, blast, recoil)then Remington's golden saber load? Both are going being fired from a 2 1/2inch. barreled Ruger SP101,whats the difference as far as controllability between the two loads in this gun? I know the GS is a midrange magnum load and the sjhp stuff is supposed to full house so huge difference if there in felt recoil between the two?

I think there's about 200 fps difference between the two. The GS load is around 1100 fps out of 2" J frame so I'd guess the SJHP would be around 1300 out of your 2 1/2". You'll feel some difference in recoil and muzzle blast. The Ruger can handle the full house load if you're comfortable with it.

    +1 for 200 fps difference.

The 357M1 load is +-1400 fps. The midrange GS replaced the 357M2 load at +-1200 fps.

The M2 version was great fot the K frame S&Ws.

do you guys feel that the remington 125 sjhp's would be controllable out of my sp101 2 1/2in. with its hogue mono grip I get a nice full grip on her. Has anyone shot these out os an sp101 if so did you find them to be a good load for this gun? thanks.

Your follow-up shot won't be very quick.

I use the Remington 125 Grain SJHP's in .357 Magnum in all my .357 Magnums.

It's a load that has been "proven" and I have no doubt in it's ability, if I do my part and put the bullets where they need to go. Yes, it's "old technology" but just because something is old doesn't mean it doesn't work.

The Golden Saber is a "mild" load when compared to the original. It may or may not necessarily be "better". I carry the "proven" load in my 2 1/4" SP101 with no qualms. I also carry it in my 3" and 4" guns.

I think that sometimes the old ways are the better ways.

Stick'n with the tried and true product is rarely a bad idea. Let somebody else test the beta.

So the Remington 125grain loads are more than controllable out of an SP101 then? I have to say the hogue monogrip and the front sight I painted bright orange really helped in the shoot ability of the gun. I'm gonna try the Remington 125's at the range this week but I can control the winchester white box 110gr. loads better than the golden sabers as of right now,i think this will change with practice but I figure I'm better off carrying the winchester as i can make faster follow up shot with them. Am I right on my thinking?

    I dunno.
I've got the original grip on the SP101 (2.24" barrel); seems it would be tough to improve on for impact absorption and concealability. I added wooden side inserts just for aesthetics.
Anyway, I find 125 gr Golden Sabers quite controllable, and certainly have MUCH less flash than various other cheaper rounds I shoot mostly at range.

I did a Night Shoot last week w/o a flashlight.

At 10 Yards, by moonlight, you could make out the siloehtte (sp?) of the target, but that's it. I was shooting my 9mm with Federal 9BPLE, which has a fair amount of muzzle flash. It's not really a problem and I don't understand the concern regarding muzzle flash.

Sorry guys and gals, but if you are focused on your Front Sight the muzzle flash isn't going to bother you, IMHO. I'll be shooting my .357 Magnums next week at another Night Shoot. They aren't a problem either.

I carry the 125 grn Rem or UMC SJHP in both my SP101 and GP100. The UMC load is brass cased - and runs a little hotter, at least in the lots I have.

I find the nickel cased Rems to extract a little easier, so I use the UMC for practice, and the Rems for carry.

I carry my 2 1/4" SP101 (bobbed hammer- DAO)in the left front pants pocket on occasion. I practice pulling and shooting all 5 rounds with just the left hand. I have no trouble putting all 5 in the simulated COM at point blank distance. Or shooting from the right hand and using the sights a little further out.

Heck yes it recoils. Violently. I love it.

    Here's chrono results - sunny day - 93 deg F.

    4" GP 100 (avg of 6 shots) Rem 125 SJHP = 1423 fps - 565 ft. lbs.
    4" GP 100 (avg of 6 shots) UMC 125 SJHP = 1461 fps - 596 ft. lbs.

    2.25" SP 101 (avg of 5 shots) Rem 125 SJHP = 1294 fps - 467 ft. lbs.
    2.25" SP 101 (avg of 5 shots) UMC 125 SJHP = 1327 fps - 491 ft. lbs.
