Gun shows around here routinely have Gold Dot 124+p for $20/50. I'm stocked up for long time.

One of my Gunsite instructors was a consultant to a major ammo manufacturer. He said they ran all kinds of tests, everything they could think of - windshields, ballistic gell, all the major ammo brands, etc. When it was all done, he said they didn't find a cents worth of difference between any of them.

He said he looked for the least expensive JHP by a major manufacturer and that was his SD ammo.

My preference is Federal HST in both 9mm and .45ACP. Tactical Defense Solutions (a sponsor of this forum, use promo code DC to get a 6% DefensiveCarry discount!) as of this writing sells 9mm 124gr for $20 and 147gr for $21 (box of 50), plus s/h. I've also purchased it from AmmunitionToGo which sells it for about the same price. Shipping charges are a bit high for one box, a bit over $10 at TDS, but for two boxes s/h is only $1 more. So total price per box goes down if you order several.

Walmart has 9MM in 147 gr JHP. Have you had any experience with that load? I usually run 124 gr +P, but this was $20 for 50 rounds!!

    9mm Bargains

    Federal 9BPLE 115 Grain +P+
    Winchester 127 Grain +P+
    Gold Dot 124 Grain +P

Those are the one's I look for at Gunshows and in the "Bargain Bin".

I have not tried it in the 9mm but winchester has a new ammo out that is sold only at basspro called SXZ and it is pretty reasonbly priced. I tried the 40 cal in water jugs the other day and it expanded pretty good as far as I could tell. I will be buying more of it.

I like to get Gold Dot 124gn or Cor Bon 115gn....both seem to have good expansion and penetration qualities.

I'd have to say Federal HST. Around $20.00 for 50 rounds.

$20 for 50 rounds is what HST costs online (well, before s/h), and I'd say it's a much better load. 100% bullet weight retention compared to most conventional jacketed rounds that will fragment, is a huge bonus to penetration and energy transfer, which is why HST performs so well.

I have heard it is the same bullet as their WWB but I don't know that for sure.
