Not quite- TMJs (Truncated MetaL Jackets) came about as something with more shock potential that still qualified as sorta-ball, along with ball-like feed properties.

Used in locations were HPs are not allowed...or if your 1911 won't feed them(HPs, that is).

Okay...most of mine are that....but without me searching the internet...what's a BEB? I actually don't know, but I have a few boxes of these in 40cal. They are semi flat nosed I guess you'd call it.

I think you mean TCMJ = Truncated Cone Metal Jacket.

TMJ = Total Metal Jacket, or a bullet with a fully encapsulating copper jacket. As opposed to FMJ which doesn't jacket the base.

So is that actually at the base of the bullet? A two piece design?

Yes Indeedy. It's a little brass plug that keeps most of the heat from reaching the exposed lead, I believe it was designed specifically for indoor ranges if I'm not mistaken...

Now see, I learned something today. Something I never knew. In my book that's cool! Now I'm going to have to pull one of 'em just to see what it actually looks like. Thanks for the info.

Before the NYPD got over their fear of hollowpoint ammo, they briefly considered a 124 grn TMJ +p+ round for the street. Thankfully the round did not perform well in ESU's MP-5's. Shortly after the Diallo situation (where they were using 115grn ball!) they went to 124grn GDHP and have had no problems.
