    Interpretation of FBI gelatin tests

    you guys might find this site ineresting. these are results from the FBI ballistics testing. when you compare the #s between winchesters black talon in 9mm (147) and PMC/Eldorado SF in 45acp (230) or you could compare the black talon to CCI/Speer GD in 45acp (185) you will see that some some 9mm rounds clearly out perform others. this isnt to say that the 9mm round mentioned is flat out superior to the 45's mentioned. but if you can carry a 9mm round that comes close to the performace of some 45 rounds?????? i understand that some of you might disagree but keep in mind this data was provided by the FBI, not my cousin tony

    *note* the numbers i have given the most weight to, and thus chose to compare the above rounds on are;
    penration, in bare and clothed gelitian
    wound volume, in bare and clothed gelitian
    and average wound volume.

    i understand there is alot more to consider but to me those #'s are the meat and potatos of it.

    Just about any 115 gr. JHP launched at 1300 fps from a 9MM should serve you well. That combination of bullet weight and velocity has a proven record of making good stops on the street.

    HST or Ranger T-series. By the way, the same answer is true for .355 Sig, .40 & .45. Unfortunately, this isnt true for 10mm since premium LEO projectiles aren't offered in this caliber.

    The Springfield XD9 Subcompact favored the Winchester Ranger 9mm +P+ 127-grain SXT (RA9TA), which averaged around 1,200 feet per second (fps). This bullet/firearm combination shot as well as some custom firearms with custom ammunition costing five times as much. The Winchester Ranger 9mm +P 124-grain SXT (RA9124TP) ran a close second with an average of 1,131 fps and sub 4-inch groups

    I concur with cupcake. However, I like the Corbon DPX a little more.

    HST in any flavor gets my vote.

    AZHusker (or anyone),

    How does the DT 147gr GD compare to the HST? Is the +P too hot for my little PM9? I'm having a hard time finding more 147gr HST and this looks like a good option. I bought a bunch of 10mm GD from DT last year. Great ammo, good price and excellent service.

    Thanks.

    I don't use the Double Tap in 9mm, but I do carry the 147gr in my G32 .357 Sig. It's blasting out of the tube at 1255fps and isn't even +p ammo. That is .357 Mag power. I don't think you can beat Double Tap with Gold Dot bullets.

    Thanks for your input,

    I may get some 9mm. I'm a little worried it may be too hot for my PM9 though.
