    45 ACP for SD

What is the best gran .45 hollow point to use for self defense. I just bought my first .45 and I was looking at Remington 230gr JHP. I know about federal hydro shock 185gr JHPs, but the Remington are less expensive. You can get 100 rounds for 37 bucks any thoughts on the Remington ammo for SD.

You will probably get responses with a lot of personal preferences so I'll get it started - Magtech 185 gr +P JHP.

I'll throw in my $0.02 worth. Federal HST +P 230 gr. Better price and performance than Hydra-Shoks.

Winchester Ranger SXT RA45T 230 JHP.
Be aware that if you're going to deviate much from a standard 230gr load, you might have to change your recoil spring.

The muzzle end of a .45 pretty much says, "Go Away" in every language.

FMJ, JHP, BFB, it's a 45. Doesn't much matter what kind as to where it goes.

I dunno, i like the idea of punching quarter sized holes in something, as opposed to a dime. Maybe that's me though

Another vote for the HST's. Great prices on them from ammunitiontogo.com as well.

Interesting test results here: Round 7 - Denim testing with 9mm, 45 acp, 357 magnum

Keep reminding yourself: "It is only a pistol round"
Where you put them is exponentially more important than bullet design.

Personally I am currently carrying 230g Ranger SXT. I probably have a couple of mags around with Golden Sabers too. I don't really consider one better than the other, they both work just fine in my pistol.

    Normally for my daily carry
I carry Golden Saber 230 JHP (has never let me down)
In both my USP-CT and my Officers 1911

But I also have been testing the
Federal HST 230 gr and Winchester Ranger SXT RA45T 230 JHP ammo if they continue to perform well for me with no failures to feed or jams in either pistol I may be switching in the near future because of the better ballistics they have over the Golden Saber
