Could always order online... AmmunitionToGo.com
ammunitiontogo.com has the 135gr +P SB Gold Dots along with 110gr +P DPX and Federal Classic 158gr +P LWCHP. All good!
midwayusa.com probably has these same loads along with a couple of good Buffalo Bore loads.
Both sites have many others as well.
Buffalo Bore Standard Pressure 158's
are what I keep in my 442.

Field experience on Texas varmints and critters leads me to believe that the +P 158 grain loadings are tops for .38 Special self defense. I currently like the Remington rendition. I have some Buffalo Bore +P 158 grain ammo but haven't found the sky screens for the chronograph since we moved earlier this year so that I could test it in several barrel lengths.
I wouldn't get "hung up" looking for the "short barrel ammo".
Speer only makes one 135 Grain +P load in 38 Special. The difference is the box they put it in. The 50 Round boxes are for L.E. contracts/sale and the 20 Round "short barrel ammo" is for non LEO sales.
In short, any Gold Dot 135 grain +P JHP is the same as any other Gold Dot 135 Grain +P JHP.

NYPD carries 135grn. +P Gold Dot in their off duty J frames with very good results.
If you prefer non +P ammo, there are only a few good loads that will expand from a 2" snub. Winchester makes a 110gr Silvertip, Remington a 110gr JHP, and FEderal a 110gr Hydra Shok. Glaser and Magsafe also list non +P loads if frangibles are your thing. Buffalo Bore lists a 158gr LSWCHP, but I have never seen or tried it myself. I have the most experience with the Hydra Shok, the Remington JHP and the Winchester Silvertip were often backordered, the Glaser and Magsafe were too expensive.
All but the Buffalo Bore and Magsafe here:
HOLLOW POINT Ammo : Ammunition To Go
They also list an XTP, but I would not expect it to expand at all from a snub, by design it's a minimal expansion load. Same with the JSP loads they list.
And everybody knows the best snub load ever was the Nyclad. I wish Federal would start up production again. Maybe if we all sign a petition?
I have a question for anyone who might know.
I keep reading how the Speer GDSB 135 +P's
were developed for and are used by the NYPD in their 38's.
I bought a bunch when they came out, based on the hype.
However, I have not read nor heard about even one instance
where the ammo was used and how effective it was.
It seems to be the choice of so many, but based on what?
There are many reports of actual results
with 158 38+P's from Remington, Winchester and Federal.
My choice of Buffalo Bore is based on it being
at least equal to or probably an improvement over
the previously mentioned 158's.
The Speers have been out for some time, yet I have read
no reports of how they performed in an actual shooting.
If anyone has any such information,
I would greatly appreciate reading about it.
Many Thanks.
Stand by, I'll work on it. I don't think NYPD puts out the SOP-9 report anymore but I am retired from NYPD so I will try to dig something up from my friends at Rodman's Neck (NYPD Outdoor Range). Everything I have been told thus far regarding the Gold Dot round is that NYPD is very happy with it.
