    Cheap ammo?

So at my local gun dealer they charge about $21 for 20 rounds of speer gold dot 9mm 124gr. I came across this website today and it's half the price...am I seeing it wrong? Or was I just getting taken in the past for over a buck a round??

Maybe they charge less for LEOs? If it's for anyone, I'm interested.

Ammunition to go has a good reputation. I have ordered from them many times. And yes, you have been getting taken paying a buck a round. This is just an advantage that Internet Direct dealers have over local gun shops. I feel bad for them, but the economy is bad and I refuse to pay gun shop prices for SD ammo. I buy at Walmart (sorry, they are cheapest) for practice, and all of my SD ammo comes from Ammo to go. Just make sure you order enough boxes that the shipping cost does not negate your savings.

SHOP AROUND, Ammo To Go has great prices, shipping will add some, a lot in some cases. Local gun shops are probably the most expensive for ammo but they have better selection. You must include the cost of ammo plus shipping for a true comparison.

Yeah, I just figured shipping couldn't be THAT much. I wish they had a shipping calculator...

Oh I see now. Why would they charge $20 for a box of 20 and 25 for a box of 50? Thats strange....

I'm guessing because they get close to the same price on both 20 and 50 round boxes. Like a minimum charge? Or something like that?

Too bad there is no 50rd box of the 'short barrel' ones.

The HP bullet is designed to expand at lower velocities I believe.

Better selection local gun shops? Not any that I've visited, and most local shops -- if they even have it -- won't sell civilians ammo marked by the manufacturer for LEO use (Federal HST for example).

I find a far greater selection of ammo at online shops.

AmmunitionToGo is good, I've ordered from them. I'm about to order more HST, this time from Tactical Defense Solutions. TDS is a sponsor of this forum and offers a 6% discount for DC members, use the promotion code DC during checkout.

Shipping is high because ammo is heavy, but the trick is to buy more than one box. For example, at TDS, here is the shipping breakdown for 50 rounds of .45ACP 230gr HST:

    1 box = $10.95 shipping
    2 boxes = $11.55 shipping
    3 boxes = $12.15 shipping

    At AmmunitionToGo, same thing:

    1 box = $10.96 shipping
    2 boxes = $11.45 shipping
    3 boxes = $12.04 shipping

So it looks like each additional box (I only tried up to 3) costs only around 60 cents extra to ship.
