Target shooting with top end carry rounds. Unreal.

I have 100 rounds, and have only fired 1. I probably should shoot a full mag to make sure I don't have any issues, but the 50 hydrashocks that I got rid of did fine, and my Baby Eagle is anything but a picky eater. Not one problem with any .40 brand (inc. reloads).

For me, the HSTs are double my target loads.

Do a search on this forum section to see lots of HST threads and pics.

I presently use Speer Gold Dots in my SD weapons. I have used five or six different types...HST's or several others work very well for me.
One of the reasons I like my Kimber Ultra in .45 is that .45's make BIG holes with any make of ammo...

By the way Allen...nice pic...almost a perfect split...

And yet CTD keeps selling it and Federal keeps selling the ammunition to them.

Do you think that if that was the case that Federal would continue to sell to them? Of course not.

I don't think Federal would stop selling them to vendors. The HST is a very popular round, everyone wants them. Federal is making a lot of money off the HST, they are not going to ignore the almighty $.

I'm pretty sure I read over on GT that someone sent a email to Federal about HST's. Federal said they would take care of LE orders first but would still provide HST's to other vendors as well.

    9mm HST testing

I happened to do some HST testing yesterday. I used gel, properly calibrated with several different rounds.

    I shot and chronograph 124gr HST, 124gr +P HST, 147gr HST, 147gr +P HST, and Ranger-T.

    These were fired from a Glock 19 and a Kel-Tec Sub-2000.

I'll post a full review once I compile everything but the summery is this:

Avoid the 124gr and stick with the 147gr. In 147gr vs 147 +P there was little to no felt recoil and an inch or so penetration difference. The 124 did expand but folded under and lost a pedal or two as it traveled in the gel. This was more severe in the 124 +P version shot from the sub-2000.

The Ranger T did expand but was much smaller in size impaired to the HST.

i will be waiting. i would be supprised if the 124gr. did not function properly when fired from a pistol length barrel instead of a 16".

They are great rounds, consistent, and will shoot in any gun that I have, where others won't.

Shot a few through my Glock just yesterday! Here are some frames from my video camera...see the nice mushroom cloud?

First photo is UMC 9mm 115 grain
Second and third are Federal HST 147 grain

I was video recording myself to look for bad habits...these came out, neat!

I carry and use REM Golden sabors in all of my carry guns, they always get a favorable review on all of the forums & handgun SD testing, and I find them compleatly reliable with no jams or malfunction in all of my guns, plus they are priced right also, and are always available from different vendors

The bullet entered the 3rd jug but did not exit. For some reason I was just expecting a little more expansion, you know?

I would hope for better expansion than you got, but looking at Federal's site for their muzzle velocities and energies they seem to load on the light side. Add light load and short barrel and the result is poor expansion. There are loadings by speer for short barrels which I would be more inclined to carry in a small pistol such as a Kel-Tec.

Does anyone know of any online stores that have the HST 230gr .45 in stock? DTS and Streichers are backordered, and I still haven't received my initial order from AmmoToGo. Are there other sources you guys use?
