9mm vs .45 No I'm not crazy.
The brother-in-law went to a family reunion recently. He and most of his brothers are/were in the military. Well, they get on the subject of 9mm or .45 having more penetration. He couldn't believe that the 9mm could have more.
I explained to him, (days later) that the 9mm is a much narrower and longer round as compared the the "short and fat" .45.
I also told him to not get confused when thinking about "penetration." As we all know, isn't really what stops a BG, it's "energy transfer."
Well, his dad gets some paper and who knows what else and does the math. He gives some sort of answer that the .45 indeed has more stopping power than the 9mm, which wasn't really the argument in the first place.
The way I see it, I think every one of them was arguing a different, separate, independent, yet true side. I guess it's one family where everyone has to be right.
Anyway, not really a question, or anything, but thought it might draw some interesting responses.
Yes I know that the .45 is much more effective as an SD round.

Jarhead Yall just summed up the whole arguement online , and in the gunrags for the last 40 or so years , no one is right and any test can be skewed , they both work if the shooter does his job. that being said i carry a 9 day to day , but when i go to the big city my 9 backs up my sig 220 .45 lol i dont feel unarmed with a 9 but by the same token i once had a suspect i arrested off duty ( or as off duty as a small town cop get when seeing a felon ) ask uppon seeing my Detonics *** are you carrying in that f***** thing , flying ashtrays??? somehow the reaction stayed with me lol

More caliber wars... I tell ya regardless of .25, 32, 38, 9MM or 45 I would not want to be on the business end of either. I see it like this shot placement counts. I tell ya what, if most people find them self in a " man I need a gun situation and a "Gennie" shows up with a .25 and says that is all I can give you and some extra rounds. I bet that little .25 will heat up real quick. My 2 cents.

i dont see this post as cal wars myself , i see this post as an honest request for understanding of why things are ranked as they are . i dont participate well in caliber wars cause a carry them all from .380 thro .45 and dont feel under gunned with any of em

I resist cal debates pretty much - as most of us do - but they never go away
Suffice it to say - from my POV the deal is based on ''damage done'' - how much and how critical. That has to come back to where the damage is done.
Big bleed, small bleed, CNS - all factors contributing to ''time of threat cessation''. Ultimately I do not see too much major problem over anyone's choice - as long as if possible, they carry the best and most they can - and learn to use it - VERY effectively!
