November SWAT article on Winchester Bonded

There's a good article in the November SWAT issue that talks about Winchester being awarded the FBI ammo contract for their Bonded .40 and 9mm ammo. Probably old news to some, but I didn't know about the extensive FBI testing and found it to be a good read. Just wanted to give a heads up.

I'll have to check it out. Saw my Winchester rep last week and the bonded looks good.

Yeah, I'd already ordered 500 rnds of HST when I saw the article, but if for any reason it doesn't function well in my 1911, I'll definitely look at the Ranger Bonded next.

I secured a box of the bonded from the local FBI Field Division firearms coordinator and a second box of the new FBI training ammo. I haven't fired either box of ammo....but I will soon.

OK, this is the first I have heard of this ammo. How does it compare to the the Federal HST?

Somehow I have a problem with most anything that is manufactured by "the lowest bidder".

I have no clue how it compares to HST, but if I remember correctly, according to the article it passed the FBI testing with higher marks than any other ammo to date.

And I don't think the article ever mentions that Winchester was the lowest bidder... I'm pretty sure that's not the main qualifier they used...

    Hey folks,

Don't get too excited about the FBI "test". They are only one of many indicators as to how ammo may perform on the street.

There is even some good ammo out there that doesn't do all that well in the FBI protocols, but performs superbly in real life.

.357 Magnum Federal 125 Grain JHP
.357 Magnum Remington 125 Grain SJHP
    9mm Federal 115 Grain +P+
    38 Special Remington 158 Grain +P LHP

My memory may be faulty, but I don't think any of the above mentioned rounds did all that well in the FBI testing.

I don't get too worked up over ammo test. You still have to put the rounds where they need to go. As far as "new" ammo, no thank you. I don't want to be anyone's Beta tester.

After there have been some documented results by other people foolish enough to be Beta testers, then I'll conseder using that ammo.

    Biker
