Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 357
Has anyone shot Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 357 in a Scandium J Frame? Speer states it's 130 feet faster than the 38 +P with the same bullet weight, so it would appear there shouldn't be too much of a difference. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thank you.

Have not tried Speer 357 GDSB in Scandium J frame, but I have fired it in my Scandium L frame and the recoil is roughly the same as 38+P. If you can handle 38+P in your J frame you should be able to handle the 357 GDSB without much of a problem.

I went to the range last night with my 340 PD. Loaded the gun this way 5 times. #1 Remington 38+P 125 JHP, #2 Corbon 38+P 110 JHP, #3 Corbon 38+P 110 DPX, #4 Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 38+P 135 JHP and #5 Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 357 135 JHP. The first 3 were very easy to control and not much different in recoil. The Speer 38's recoil felt about 25% stiffer than the first 3 and the 357's recoil felt a good 50% more than the Speer 38+P. Able to control? Yes. Comfortable? No. Also, there was no bullet pull on any of the bullets. My 340 PD will be loaded with Corbon 38+P 110 DPX. Accurate, minimal recoil and rapid recovery for follow up shots.

Thank You
Hey Thanks for the info Coach!
I have a 340PD that I purchased as my BUG weapon. I have run about 250 rounds of the Speer Gold Dot 135 JHP rounds through the gun. I can control the gun but I don't feel that it is comfortable for any extended practice. I will have to try the Corbon 110 DPX round.

Irighti,
The Corbon DPX is not that easy to find. I finally ordered it directly from Corbon. (800) 626-7266. They come in 20 round boxes. I am told they will offer the DPX in 357 soon. Those might be interesting to try if they act like the DPX does in 38+P...lighter recoil in DPX than their 110 +P JHP.
