I was looking at some Golden Bear 7.62x39mm ammo and I was wondering if anyone knows what the jacket on the bullet is made of? Wolf uses steel in their jackets and my local range will not allow me to use it. If anyone knows about Brown Bear and Silver Bear as well please let me know.

I sent an email to the golden bear website and the reply I received was: "It is a bi-metal jacket, lead core." This leads me to believe that the jacket is made the same way as wolf and contains steel.

I wouldn't think steel would be in any bullet jacket material. Some form of alloy possibly, but steel on steel would be bad news. Lots of surplus ammo projectiles are magnetic......reason being these have steel cores. Whatever it is should be softer than steel.
