    .45 BMG ?

I've got a few .50's but never heard of that one.

Since this is a carry gun sorta thing, I'd go with the .45 Golden Sabre though the eyeball.

    3" magnum, 12 gauge, 00-Buck.
15 balls of .33-caliber, at about 1200 fps/muzzle. If I only get to fire once, I want it to be noticed!!
However, FWIW, I've taken to carrying my 9mm more often, and my beloved 1911 less, for a related reason: 7+1(with another 7) Vs 16+1(with another 16). With "disparity of Force" crimes becoming more common, I want "Disparity of Round Count" on my side .

    Stay safe,

    Chuck Brick.
Why do I use 230 gr. for my .45acp?
    Because I can't find a source of 250 gr!

Thanks to those of you that embraced the spirit of the question. I'm pretty sure there would be some legal issues in firing from 7 miles away with a naval piece at a mugger in a Wal-Mart parking lot, and I think that an HE round at 7 ft. would pose some problems to the shooter as well. Just trying to stir up some thought. Next post will begin with "Which J-frame should I buy?", or "9mm vs. .45"...

I love a really big gun so that when it's empty I can still beat the crap out of the BG with it.

I carry to protect myself and my loved ones from the BG's. Not to solve societies problems. That said: if more carried the deterrent would only have a positive overall effect on those problems.

Keeping within the spirit of the question, I would prefer a .44 mag,240gr JHP to the "golden triangle"(draw a triangle that has points at the tip of the nose and center of the eyes). Since it is a bit tiresome to carry a .44 mag, a .45acp will just have to do.

That is, essentially, a caliber distinction (or, "war," if you prefer).

My pistol choice for practical use: relatively light and mid-sized 9mm Luger JHP of >= 500 lb-ft energy, relatively large capacity magazines, spare mags. The why of it would be "warring," so I'll stop there. Suffice to say that the combination works for me.

    My overall choice, for close-in self-defense use: 3" 00 Buck 12ga, in a short and heavy-duty shotgun.

My overall choice, for out to 200yds: .30-30, in a decent lever-action rifle. Easy to use, easy to fire.

I understand the reasons for carrying a hi-cap pistol, a BUG, and twelve spare extended magazines, but the odds are you may only get one off...
Gota go with what I carry most! .45 cal. Hydro Shock.

Well, it's the "if he gets hit" part that we have to determine...
A man fires a rifle for many years, and he goes to war. And afterward he turns the rifle in at the armory, and he believes he's finished with the rifle. But no matter what else he might do with his hands - love a woman, build a house, change his son's diaper - his hands remember the rifle.

In 16'', you don't count in inches, it's 100 yards with a HE round.

Indeed...But there is still the need for BDA, or else BDA wouldn't be a term (nor would it be one of my METL tasks a while back).
