A .357 , 124 or 158 grain hollow point.....
30.06, in something belt fed:image035:
OK, I'm just going to go with the assumption that it has to be a round out of a handgun--and I'll even go with one that I own...
It'd be a 325grn DPX out of my .500 at about 1800fps and 2300 ft/lbs.
Actually, out of a handgun I carry...if it was only one shot...I'd sure hope I was carrying my G21 with 230+P TAP that day.
40mm MP round ou of a 203 grenade launcher, kinda like a huge shotgun round
From a handgun, I'd be happiest with a 230 grain expanding bullet from a .45 ACP.
First, Accurate, and 45 ACP HP (repeat as necessary) :scruntiny:
I have always trained to 2 COM + 1 Head, repeat as necessary; it is almost muscle memory.
Statistics show that gunfight end with few rounds shot because most of the people involved do not have any training: GG against BG.
However when you have trained people, and good equipment, numbers change.
Therefore I don't see the OP premises having a decent probability.
Considering what I carry...
200 gr Gold Dot HP in .44 special
230 gr Hydra Shok in .45 acp

Accurate sums things up nicely; however, I would want to be accurate with one of the rounds that has a rating of at least 90% in this chart:
