I am curious if the Winchester cowboy action load of 255 grain lead flat point propelled at 750fps would be an adequate self defense load in an emergency. If your answers are for or against please let me know why.

In an emergency... sure, anything is better than nothing. I would note, however, that most cowboy action loads are designed for low recoil rapid shooting on steel, not self defense. I would strongly suggest finding a hollowpoint round designed for hunting or SD purposes, such as the Hornady LeverEvolution.

With its heavier bullet at a lower velocity than the service FMJ load for the 45ACP, it may not be the best choice, but should do the job.
Yeah it'll work. It did the job for quite some time before everything else became available.
The 255 lead flat point moving at 750 is pretty much the standard load for the .45 Colt. With good shot placement, it will do the job.
