    Cool Need .223/5.56 Ammo

I'm new to the .223/5.56 and need to buy some ammo for my new MSAR STG. I'm looking at the following:
    Federal M855- 62gr
    .223 BTHP - 68 gr
    .223 VMax - 55 gr
Is the M855 good ammo to go with? Is it only practice target ammo? Any negatives with it?
Any suggestions on ammo and it's availability would be helpfull. Thanks.

68gr BTHP and 55gr V-Max. You have some specific applications in mind? Brass case, boxer primed, I don't figure you could go wrong. Make sure your rifle is chambered for 5.56, and you may also be approaching a best twist rate of 1/8 for the 68-72gr loads where the 55-62gr loads may do best with a 1/9 twist.

As far as the 62gr SS109 steel tip insert (M855), I've never had any issues. If you're comparing it to the standard 55gr FMJ in cost for range practice ammo, then I would go with the better deal on cost alone. Just my opinion.

I ordered a thousand rounds of 68gr BTHP from Georgia Arms back in November. Still waiting...

My guess is that if you're looking for something so you can shoot your new rifle right now, you're probably not going to be able to be very picky about brand or bullet at this point in time. Various brands and types of ammo seem to be almost non-existent at this time.
