How and where to store ammunition

I never really kept allot of rounds arounf the house. Normally I would keep a box what ever my carry loads are in the safe with my guns.

When we were going to the range I would just pick up some cheap range amo and rotate a box of the hot loads thru the gun depend on how much time has gone by sine I ran some hot loads thru my guns.

But now as we all know everybody seams to be hoarding the ammo . So I guess I have to also so I can always go to the range.

So My question is if i am going to have a couple thousand rounds in the home (going to add up quick when I have so many differant calibers) What is a safe way to store the ammo I guess against theft or fire.

Fire resistant gun safe is your best bet. But keep in mind, no safe is fire-proof.

I'm acquiring my own ammo reserves and my locked cabinet is a poor substitute for a quality gun safe.

never put much thought into it. when our new 'messiah' was elected i purchased about 15,000 rounds for all my different calibers in case ammo skyrockets again like it did when the iraq war started. Got a closet full of the ****. Lol. i was too young to own a gun then:(

I use an old and non-functioning refrigerator for ammunition, powder, bullet, and primer storage. I've removed its power cord.
    1. It was free (although I had to move it myself).
    2. It's insulated, so heat and cold aren't an issue. It's also fireproof—well, for a while anyway.
    3. I added a hasp-and-padlock set, so it's locked closed. The hasp is arranged so that the door can open about an inch, even when it's locked.
    4. If any powder somehow starts to burn, the old door-latch will undo, and the door will open a little to release the pressure safely.
    5. Its freezer compartment is separate, but it's inside the main box, so everything locks with the same padlock. In the freezer are primers and percussion caps, separately insulated.

I recommend the idea to you.
