Winchester PDX1

This is a discussion on Winchester PDX1 within the Defensive Ammunition & Ballistics forums, part of the Defensive Carry Discussions category; I read a new article in Guns and Ammo's Handgun magazine, and they praised the PDX1. Anyone have any experience with it?...

No, but I read the same article, it looks good, now the trick will be to just find some.

It is $1 a bullet? From $.58 to $ 1. Supply and demand.

    Ammo

Wihout the "talons", it's just a Gold Dot copy. I don't see what would make it any better or worse than other bullets of similar technology. As for Guns and Ammo's praise, I'll bet it follows Winchester's advertising dollars being spent.

Of course, if you can get it in stock, it's better than everything else lately.

I purchased some a while back at Academy. Didn't really know much about it, but figured I'd just grab a box since it was there.

    What are "talons"?

    Talons

The pointy pieces of jacket that stick out of the expanded Ranger "T" series, the Platinum hunting rounds, or the original Black Talons are sometimes known as Talons.

There were two designers trying to improve terminal ballistics back in the day. Tom Burczynski was experimenting with different shaped punches and different shaped notches in copper jackets to make a bullet that would expand at any velocity but could be formed with a punch that would allow them to be mass produced. Hydra Shok, Starfire, and the Gold Dot were made with this technology. Dave Schluckebier working with Alan Corzine developed a bullet that used the jacket expanding larger than the lead core to cut as a method of wounding. The Black Talon was the original design but after some controversy, Schluckebier (Do you have to have an impossible to spell name to design good bullets?) left and went to Remington and developed the Gold Saber series. Same method of wounding, different way of accomplishing it.

The pic is a semi-expanded 9mm BT, you can see one of the Talons.

I have four boxes of 9mm in 147 that will be here on Monday, $18 per box at Cabelas which is the only place I could find it.

Please let us know how you all like the stuff or not. I will use CorBon DPX until convinced otherwise. Corbon DPX is a 100% copper bullet, therefore, you do not have to worry about a "jacket" fragging off.

Will do. I like the fact that it's a bonded round but to be honest I prefer HST, just hard to find in 147 nowadays.

Was at Gander Mountain tonight, and they had A LOT of this ammo in 9mm, 40, and 45. I bought a few boxes of 9mm 124gr +p just because. It looks like its the Ranger T, but bonded. $22 for 20 rounds of the 9mm. Not too bad I guess....especially since it's Gander...
