HST's are nice, but I can only find Gold Dots in AZ. Either one in 124 Grain +P is a great chioce IMO.

A bullet the size of a 9mm, imho, should be a fast bullet. Sure, they are all fast, but the 124+P will give you added speed over the 147; with the shorter barrel I personally believe this will benefit you.

one the big knocks on the 147 is it some times failed to expand. your short barrel may enhance this.

i would say the 124gr.+P. im a bit parial to the round myself.

    dbraves,
I think the first thing you should do is test fire the ammunition you are considering to be sure your gun feeds it reliably. I carried the Speer GD 124+P for years but switched to 147gr HST recently. The expansion of the HST is more consistent, depth penetration is about 13" in gelatin and it expands to.72NYPD uniformed officers use Speer GD 124+P in both service and off duty gun so it doesnt appear that there is a concern for different barrel lenghts.. The plus P travel faster and that slight extra speed may make them expand sooner so penetration may be slightly less. I'm not sure how much the short barrel in your XD will affect any of your choices, I think shot placement is a lot more important. If its of any help I'm carrying 147gr HST in my XD9c.

    D ,
I made one mistake in my post ( typo error), my XD is a sub comp. You cant go wrong with any of the 3 choices. Get a box of each and test fire them, whichever one is the most comfortable to shoot and you are the most accurate with is the one you carry.

This might help ya. Try even finding some of the HST Tactical loads for your 9. Go to your stores, check the net, etc. If you can't find them, it makes the choice a lot easier. Plus it helps soften the blow of inevitably choosing them and having to go with option B.

Deciding between 124+p and 147+p shouldn't be a huge deal. Buy some ammo, and try to buy as much as you can (With rising prices and whatnot). Then get yourself some practice ammo and have at it. Training is more important than any bullet you choose.

Here's what I wrote in another thread...

I voted 147 HST as I try to keep the feel of firing the weapon in SD as close as I can to when I practice with 115 FMJ. The 147gr has a little more "oomph" when it hits without the extra "bang" IMHO. That said, I also have two boxes of 124+p just because I had the chance to get it. From what all I've found the HST is the best performer in ballistic gelatin. Not enough "real world" evidence yet.

BTW... My PM9 is my secondary choice for carry to my Glock G36 .45, which I also load with HST's.

Maybe this will shed some light.
