124/115 grain Corbon JHPs, in a BHP or STI BLS. 147s are grossly inconsistant expanders, they will penetrate, but so will ball(for less money!). 147 gr HydraShoks did not expand in 37 core-body hits from an MP-5 (+/- 10" barrel, no gas-bleed to lower energy) from one local BG vs LE confrontation report I got to see, some years ago(and in numerous other Federal and local LE shootings). Good enough to make me stay away.

"Stopping" is totally situational/individual dependant, and not necessarily consistent with expansion, or lack of. Expansion=traumatic impact, regardless of the degree of that effect on the individual . You increase the likelyhood of stopping an individual by increasing the likelyhood of expansion. Nothing is 100%, "You pays you money, you takes your chances....".
I'll play the better odds in favor of expansion(shot placement is my job, not the bullet's)- lower to midweight bullet, with high velocity.

A 10 rounder full of MagTech's, light JHP's, possibly Guardian Gold.

Back up mag is a 15 rounder, handloads made with Rem 115 JHP's. Shot out of a Glock 19.

After the Box-O-Truth style expansion test I conducted today on Federal 124 grain Hydrashoks I plan on carrying them when I get my CHL. They are very accurate and expanded consistently out of my GLOCK 26.

When I carry a 9mm iit usually has Cor-Bon 115 gn, Or the 115gn Speer GDHP. The reason the 147 gn hp. get such a bad rep. is due to their poor performance in the Miami shootout in '86. The FBI actually had that round created in hope of duplicating their 38sp "FBI" load performance. They found that loading them Sub-Sonic made for better accuracy. But how they worked in the field was a different story. I have loaded 147 gn hp to a +p level for a friend's carbine , and the results were impressive.

The rd used in the Miami shooting was the 115 gr W-W Silvertip. We had used the same rd in the early 80s for just a few months when we pulled it. During a shooting had a situation where the Silvertip failed to penetrate deep enough. When the FBI looked at going to the 115 gr ST we explained what our feelings were about it. The FBI said at the time that their shootings were different than ours and they were wanting rapid expansion type rd. In 1986 they got the same results. Fortunately for us it didn't cost us the lives of any of our people.

Not to get off topic, but how did they mean their shootings were different? Poor performance is poor performance.

G26 with Federal HST 147gr. Based on my personal tests (link to follow) and some other people's testing, i feel this is a wicked round.

Nice link, I might need to do a test with wet phonebooks some time soon. I'm trying to find the best JHP aswell and I like to test and see the result myself. Just gives me another reason to go shooting.

124 Gold Dots, not +P, so I can practice with 124 CCI/Speer/Lawman that will impact and recoil the same.
