Hornady TAP FPD
Hey, quick question. Does anyone use the Hornady TAP FPD for daily carry purposes? I'm looking for a good SD load for my Glock 23. I'm also considering the Gold Dot and Ranger T. There seems to be a good bit of commentary on those two offerings but not so much on the Hornady. That could either be because it's not such a good option for SD or just because Speer and Winchester have better PR departments!
Thanks in advance.

I carry the T.A.P ammo 230gr JHP in my .45acp I did an expantion test and tested them against the golden saber and gold dots. The gold dot and TAP expanded 99.9 percect of the time. The hornady looked pretty sharp on the "talons" and the gold dots were more rounded. The Hornady only had one failure to expand and it was because i hit the edge of the news paper pack and it diddnt make flat contact with it. The golden sabers expanded well but had a few seperations. I really like the hornady tap ammo. Its really becomming popular and is hard to get in .45acp. I have about 50 rounds but because i cant carry yet (stupid slow mail) they are just waiting to be loaded into the mag.
And im kind of a visual person and I really love the look of the black shells in the SS mag that the .45acpXD has!!! call me silly but its really easy on the eyes!. The federal Hydrashoks are REALLY nice too. Most people swear by them. and from the expantion tests i have seen online they are really reliable
Most everyone here will tell you to take a few brands and .gr's out to the range and find out which is the most reliable in your gun and gives you the best grouping! Have fun, and let us know what you end up with.

I carry because I care.

Gelicious, thanks for the info. I have some Speer GD and Ranger T ammo that I'm going to test next time the weather and time allows. Hopefully this weekend. However I'd like to give the Hornady a try too. Would you recommend the 180 or 155 grain?

Probubly the heavier .gr Go with the 180. Do the wet phonebook test or the newspaper. Get a phonebook or bundle of newspaper and SOAK them in water! As much as they will take. and then put a few rounds in each and then dig out the bullet. Check for expantion, weight, and to see if there was any jacket\core seperation. Then make your choice from there. The ranger bullet does really well in these tests. But i cant seem to find any here locally so i might have to order some.
