    Very expensive ammo!

I went to Gander Mountain Saturday and the only 9mm ammo was regular old Remington JHP and some Russian Golden Bear. The clerk told me the Remington was nearly $50 for a box of 50 rounds! Maybe they've always been that high and I just didn't notice???

I did pick up a box of the Golden Bear FMJ for just a little over $20 for 50 rounds which isn't all that bad, but I seem to remember the Russian ammo being cheaper than that too not all that long ago.

On the good side, I went to Richard's Sporting Goods and they had a shelf full of 9mm ammo. Federal American Eagle, in both 115 grain FMJ and 124 grain FMJ for $14.99 for a 50 round box. I picked up a box of each and they shoot really well out of my Taurus. I still haven't found any .380 ammo since January though.

Was Remington and Russian ammo always so expensive? It's been tough finding the time and ammo to get 200 rounds through my Taurus Millennium Pro to break it in but it's almost there.

At the Gander Mountain in College Station, I had a buddy go to get me a box of the UMC mega pack they were out but the price was 115 for it. the most expensive I have seen them is 95. From what I have been told Gander is price gouging. This is from an inside source (someone that works there).

Gander mountain is about twice the price of Wallyworld. That explains why their shelves are still full. I no longer shop for anything at Gander Mtn.

Just like the high gasoline prices...supply and demand. All this panic buying has caused great demand driving up the asking price of the supply.

In the past couple months I've bought 15 or so boxes of Blazer Brass 9mm from WW for under $10 each. Whenever I see them in stock I buy them all.

Well, just keep in mind that given the supply/demand situation, the prices could be a lot worse than they are right now. The manufacturers seem to be artificially keeping prices low.

I stopped in my local Wally World to pick up some tent stakes for my son's batting cage. Walked by the ammo shelf and there were 3 boxes of .40 Remmington JHPs there. I shoot .40 very little so I left them for someone else. I wish I knew when they were getting their stock in. I could use some more 9mm and .45.

Why the hell is the demand high?

I just bought 9 boxes of 9mm for $8.97 each. Walmart is not gouging or even marking up for the panic buyers. That is why they dominate their competition.
