It's a corporate direction, not local a local decision. Some stores don't do what they should, based on many things. But they can be called to the carpet on it, if it comes up. But, it may simply never come up. Especially if your local folks do not want it to. Why would they call to complain about something that makes them happy?

Spend your money how you want. If you feel the need to have a bazillion rounds in the basement, so be it. I suggest you store it with the bazillion rolls of toilet paper and bazillion cans of Spam.

As for my guys not telling me when ammo comes in, it's pretty much a game now... I have some ammo here, and I don't get to the range as much as I should. I likely won't be buying much more. But I did just buy a Mini 14, so 223 might become necessary soon... And in truth, one of the core beliefs of WalMart is that we are in business to suit the needs of our customer. Customers get first crack at it, in my book.

we are still dealing with empty shelves here in new mexico and will until this shortage is over. there is a state law here that prevents limiting so for the forseable future whoever gets there first usually gets it all.

No limits on anything? Up in WI, we have a few State imposed limits. Pseudoefidren and other medications come to mind. Also some kinds of lithium batteries. I guess some folks mix cold medicines with certain things and make Meth.

For my store, we have lots of deer rifle kind of ammo, and not much else...

The rationing though good for everyone involved would deprive me of the thrill of the ammo hunt LOL

Honestly, Im really not having too many problems finding ammo. There are plenty more shops around than just WalMart. I dont mind paying a little more so I can go do some shooting.

Sort of a strange occurrence this morning when I went to Walmart. I went to get some basics and thought I would stop by to see if they had any more 9mm Winchester white boxes. The guy at the counter didn't even turn around just simply said that they couldn't keep it on the shelves and some guy just but the last bunch. I can see that, I know it is tough to get right now.

Well my grandmother went to the hospital (happy mothers day huh?). I rode up with my parents to see how she was doing. My parents needed to stop at Walmart on the way back and seeing as I had nothing better to do I joked with my brother about the lack of ammo. Just for the heck of it I went up the counter and was greeted by a different lady. I asked her if she had any 9mm ammo, she looked down and asked me how many.
I was stunned it was less than 4 hours from the last time I asked. She had 7 boxes on hand and when I questioned her about getting a new shipment she said she didn't think so. The whole thing just strikes me as odd. I grabbed a few boxes and hit the road.

(Grandma is doing good by the way)

That sort of thing can happen anywhere, not just WalMart. The employee who was terminated should have been. Good riddence.

Beware of urban legends and hoaxes involving ammo on the Internet and gun forums. Lots of myths these days.

Last visit to WW there was no .40 or 9mm on the shelves.. I asked a clerk who was working there and she looked on the shelf and then under the counter.

"I have some .40 S&W. How many do you want?"

Got 2 WWB 100round boxes for $29 each.

A 9mm may expand, but a .45 will never shrink.

One of our Walmart"s clerk told me that a few days ago they got some .223 ammo. One man, who owns a gun and junk store bought it all; over $2,000 worth. I am not sure that the law would prohibit the store from limiting "wholesale," but I do not know about that.

Yesterday a friend and I went to one of the local Walmart stores where they were remodeling and had been without the required cabinet with lock and glass doors. The dept manager was just beginning to stock the new cabinet. We were there about 0800.

Since he had not been able to sell ammo for at least 2 weeks he had a pretty good stock of everything except .380. We did not attempt or want to buy it all, but just what we needed. We got some .22 bricks, .45, 9MM, and .40. Evidently it lasted until about 2:30 and then was gone from what I heard.
For once I hit it at the right time.

    Best,
    Jerry

Good for you, Jerry. I'm glad you were able to get some ammo, and very glad that you didn't participate in the craziness and hoarding that is going on. I'm all for the free market, and think that if it's legal to buy Walmart out, then people should have that ability. But my wife and I are going with less practice than we would like, and others are the same, because we can't get ammo. We have a friend, a woman, who bought a new 9mm and wants to practice with it, but can't because all of the local stores are out. And so she must decide, should she carry it without practicing? Or leave it at home when she could have had that protection with her?

And most of that ammo is sitting in someone's closet, or safe, or wherever, and not getting shot, because there are too many folks who somehow think it's going to be banned, or black helicopters are going to land on their front lawns, or somehow Obama is causing their septic tanks to back up.

Was at WW this morning for a few tomato plants and saw a box of 100 WWB .40 S&W on the shelf. I wandered around to where I could see behind the counter and there were 4 more boxes of the same. No 9mm or .38 or .380.

I got 2 boxes of the .40 a few days ago and am close to having an order for 2 cases of Hornady PD ammo shipped so I didn't buy any. I figure with what I have and with the brass I have I can reload and keep shooting for a while without depleting the WW shelves. (Until I run out of primers) LOL

If it's not on the shelves ask, may be some behind the counter.

    Sarah Connor Chronicles fan?

In all fairness you do have other options to acquire ammo. There is a healthy supply of 9mm on Gunbroker. CTD and ATG also have 9mm available. Granted it's probably 2-3x more than what you would pay @ WM but at least you'll have ammo to shoot.

The only ammo around me always available is the hi end defense rounds. For practice-no luck. Now I call WM's about 11 pm and see if they have gotten any .40 or 9mm on their nightly shipment and go pick up before going to bed. One WM puts the pistol and 223 away till 7:00 next morning, then puts it out, won't say on phone if any came in. I don't need a lot just a bit to practice and break-in. This is how a working person seems to get the plinking ammo here right now. Pretty silly all in all.
