Pardon my naivete, but what does the + P designate?
My questions hopefully will get less basic as my reading continues. Purchased a couple of books over the weekend, as suggested on this forum. Interesting stuff. Was able to purchase only 4 boxes of American Eagle 115gr fmj. It was my third store.

+P stands for Plus Pressure.
+P+ is hotter still.
The +P designation is a classification term for over stantard pressure/power ammunition.
Greater than standard loadings but, less than a "proof" test cartridge.
On Average - 9mm +P + 10% pressure increase, .38 Special +P = 9% pressure increase, .45 ACP +P = 9.5% pressure increase

Yes +P stands for pressure.
+P loads are loaded to higher pressures than the SAAMI standards for that caliber, meaning that they should not be used in some older guns.
These loads yield higher velocity which translate in higher energy: a 15% increase in velocity will give approximately 30% more energy (energy increase as the square of velocity).
The first rule of a gunfight: "Don't be there !"
The second rule: "Bring enough gun"

+P can also mean 'sore hand/wrist'.
+P+ many mean 'really sore hand/wrist'...
"That I cannot do."
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."
