I have a 16.25 inch Marlin Marauder 30-30. Even with the short barrel, the recoil is not bad. But you have to understand it's throwing a 160 grain bullet (Hornady is my fave!) at about 2400fps. Recoil is more than pretty much any 357 would ever be.

I also have a few boxes of the Winchester 150 grain hollow points. I feel like those make for a decent home defender round.

    Exclamation Recoil

Felt Recoil is a persception...unique to the shooter holding the weapon...but one has to figure that a rifle round will kick more than a pistol round would.

My Marlin .30-.30 shoots well and I have never really thought of it as a "heavy recoil" rifle. While it kicks more than the .357's I have shot, it is not considerably more.

I found a Sims Limbsaver screw-in replacement re-coil pad for my Winchester 94 / 30-30. It's a perfect fit and it looks good. The only difference in match up is the screw holes. I had to drill a hole for the bottom screw. # 10003 for anyone interested.
