I see in Concealed Carry magazine that Hornady has a new hollowpoint called "Critical Defense". Guanrateed to expand everytime! Would you change to this ammo or keep using what you are now? I for one would like to get my hands on some.![]()

As long as it goes bang when I pull the trigger I'd use it.

If it was time to purchase some more or if I lived in a region where heavy winter clothing was worn, and it happened to be winter, I might just switch.
But for now, I will continue to use my Speer Gold Dots in the 9's, and either the Hornady Critical Defense, or the Federal HST in the 642 for the wife.
Just remember that shot placement is much more important with what you carry than how big a bang you get with each trigger pull.

Forget guaranteed to expand, how about guaranteed to be on the shelf?
I'm not a lawyer or a LEO, just a pantload with a computer.
Check out review of ammo and then decide for yourself.
Personally for me my current SD ammo is good enough. (SGDs, Ranger Ts and Federal.)
A Critical Choice
I bought a couple of boxes for my Colt detective special, not rated for plus p, and the critical defense is standard pressure, so I thought I'd give them a shot. Have had a change to shoot any yet, but I'm planning too. Although I still have it loaded with Federal 110 gr. standard pressure Hydro-shoks. I am waiting for the Nyclads to hit the market to get my hands on them for my Colt.
"I don't know who invented Yoga and I don't know who invented pants. But I do know that I'd like to shake the hand of the man who put those two ideas together."
Heh, that's what I was going to say. I'd be happy to stay with one brand if I could ever find the same brand on the shelf two trips in a row.
Let's see, in my eight or so months as a gun owner, I've had Speer Gold Dot, a Hornady model I don't remember, Ranger SXT, Hornady Critical Defense, and this weekend got some Winchester Supreme Elite, which was the only defense ammo Gander Mountain had.
This thread begs for the mention of testing for reliability. It's hard to just buy a box and start carrying it. You need 100,150, 200 rounds through your gun to make sure it will function. Couple that with the need to have 2, 3, or more tested brands at your disposal in the hopes that the store will have one of them; this gets expensive.![]()

A person could drive himself to distraction chasing after bullet designs. How many different bullet products have been marketed in the past 35 years?

You got that right! You'll get a headache trying to figure out what the "magic" bullet is. There is no "magic" bullet. Find one that works well in your weapon, is reliable and has ballistics you can live with.
Personally, if a box is available I may give them a try. Otherwise I find it hard to beat the Ranger T's and HST's.

It's ALL good if it goes bang and you hit the target...nothing else matters.
Would I try it? Sure, but my Gold Dot works just fine for now.
