9mm Self Defense Ammo, What Kind and Where?
I am thinking about getting Hydra Shocks 9mm for my pistol for CC and Self defense.
The problem is.. I cannot find anything in stock.
I know that I am not the only one looking for ammo at this point but I only need about 100 rounds (50 or so to shoot, 50 to save) in order to not have my pistol a paper weight.
I am 2 days into CC as I just received my holster and belt and am getting comfortable. I have loaded target ammo in it in order to get used to the weight of a loaded gun.
So where can I grab 100 or so rounds of Self Defense ammo and what do you recommend?

Cheaperthandirt.com is selling Winchester 147 gr. HP. A couple of days ago they were selling Fed. Hydra Shok 9mm 50 rnd. box, but I guess they sold out.

What pistol? What specific rounds work best in your pistol? I'd recommend a few boxes of that.
Sounds like the Hydrashoks would be new to your gun. If you're uncertain what your pistol likes best, remember that it is your life we're speaking of. IMO, it's best to be certain it's going to work.
Federal makes some good stuff. So does Hornady, Remington, DoubleTap and others. But I would be a bit concerned about relying on an untried/untested combination in my carry gun.
Check the online shops, and use the notification feature at each of them. Be prepared to act quickly, as many are out by the time you can head to the computer. Check GunBroker.com.
Speaking of evaluating ammo, I tend to be a bit retentive about reliability. I simply hate the idea that I've loaded up my gun with rounds that I don't know will work. (Data point: an older KelTec P3AT I had simply wouldn't function with MagTech defensive rounds, no matter what. Who knew, without testing that out?) So, I tend to run a battery of various rounds through a new-to-me primary carry gun, and ultimately 1000rds or more of my selected ammo, so that I can directly evaluate the relative suitability of that ammo. Can't know until you know, and there really isn't a good way around that one. Expensive yes, but then so is having a gun jam when needed.

Welcome...
from Central Florida!
You have to find out what works best in YOUR gun. I have used all kinds of ammo, but in my 9mm's I now load Speer Gold Dot 124GR GDHP.
Works for me.

I keep Remington Golden Sabers in my XD 9mm, they work very well, I have never had an issue when testing them at the range.
Please make sure that you test your carry ammo before trusting your life to it.

I keep either Winchester Ranger T's or Federal HST's in my XD9sc.
Hydra-shocks are old "technology". I'd recommend the HST's instead. But has has been mentioned, you need to fire different rounds in YOUR gun to see what works best. Some guns perfer a particular brand/load over others.
For example, my gun may eat Rangers with out a problem (and it does), while yours may have periodic jams with the same round.

I carry Cor-Bon DPX 115 gr +P in my XD9sc. Never had a problem, but then again the XD is known to eat whatever you feed it.
I also really like magsafe for SD rounds (Mag Safe Ammo - Pre-Fragmented Saftey Ammunition Handcrafted In The USA) but they are REALLY expensive to shoot a lot.

My intentions are to practice with the ammo before I carry. But at this point, I don't have any ammo in stock near me to even try it out.

I was able to find Winchester 145 gr Hollow-point +P rounds at Bass Pro about 2 months ago. They had one box left (I think it was a 50 count?) and I grabbed it! I hear Gander Mountain has some, too.
Don't frisk me, I am the weapon.
