    Best .45 ACP Defensive Load

I've got my Kimber Ultra Carry II and I am in search of a top quality defensive round. Two themes keep popping up Golden Sabre and Hydra Shocks. When providing advice please include bullet specifics e.g. Grain JHP LWC etc. Keep in mind this is a 3 inch barrel.

I have carried the Federal 230 gr. Hydra Shokfor years in my USP .45 C (3.58") and my full size 1911 (5"). Feed very well and very accurate.

First, all of the major brands high end loads will handle the job. I tend to use the Federal Expanding point Full Metal Jacket. Expands like a hollow point, although there's no chance of the hollow point becoming stuffed with cloth when going through clothing. Also, it feeds like FMJ. If you find that your gun has trouble with hollow points, then give the FPFMJ a try. Otherwise, whichever you pick will be fine.

I like the concept of EFMJ. Very interesting indeed. I like the fact that it expands similarly like a hollow point but feeds reliably like FMJ. Ballistics is a subject that can be discussed endlessly.

I have used various 230 GR. ammo, but presently I keep Speer Gold Dot .45 Auto 185 GR. GDHP in both my Kimber CDP's used for SD.

I'd recomend a +P or 185 in that short barrel. Classic hydrashocks wouldnt be my first choice. Good luck

Personally I think the Hydrashok is a good round but there are better options due to newer technology.

I think all 45 ACP rounds are good. I still carry 230gr FMJ's at times.
I really like the 165gr Corbon. What it boils down to is what shoots point of aim and what feeds well. In my XD everything feeds

I been using 230 gr. FMJ for years....consistancy, penetration, accuracy and reliability....if it's good enough for US Special Forces, it's good enough for me.

xXxplosive...I'm not picking on you 'bro, but our military carries FMJ because they can't carry hollow points, (Geneva Convention).

BTY...I carry Rem GS 230 gr in my XD .45 Compact

I usually carry Golden Sabers mainly because they are designed to feed like FMJ. I want to try some of the EFMJ by Federal, but can't find any anywhere. Currently I am packing some WWB JHP, because I ran out of Golden Sabers and can't find any of them anywhere either.

If that was the criteria, then we would be eating MRE's and shooting 9mm

I like high quailty, reliable, controlable and accurate bullets.
