I know some time has passed since you posted this but if you are still looking for Gold Dot in .357, try AmmunitionToGo. Thay have some 158 gr. and 125 gr. available.

Buffalo bore has a tactical short barrel low flash 357 magnum line.
The gold dot was available in both 158 grain and 125 grain, and they also have Sierra JHC in 140 grain. I notice that now they do not show the 158 grain gold dot. They have a 185 grain LFN now instead.

They also recommend the heavy 38 special loads in a 357 magnum if you have difficulty ejecting the longer 357 mag cases in a snubnose.

Edit, if you click on the pull down at the top in advanced search and click on Tactical short barrel low flash 357 they do still have the 158 grain gold dot.

To answer the second part of your question, regarding the difference between the two, I'll say this: they are very different animals.

The 135 grain GD Short Barrel load appears to have been made for guns like the 340PD. You're probably better off considering it a .38 +P+. Recoil is very anticlimactic in a large revolver like a S&W N or L frame. I've loaded the ones I have left in my elderly father-in-laws 681 for his home defense uses.

The 125 grain GD loading is a different breed of cat. It hits 1500 fps from my 5 inch Model 27, and recoil is somewhat vigorous. Not abusive, but you know you're not shooting a .38 Special. Muzzle blast is pretty awesome, too. I can clear most of a firing line off the public range with a cylinder of these things.
I'll take a .45 and a large side of JHPs, please.
