easier to carry, slower to reload with, can carry more then the speedloader.
I know not what this "overkill" means.

Honing the knives, Cleaning the longguns, Stocking up ammo.

    I just tried strips recently.
Still like the twist type speed loaders better, though the are more bulky.

I've carried 5 and 6 shot revolvers for almost 30 years. When I carry one today I typically carry one HKS speedloader and two speedstrips or quick strips... Quick Strips, a forum sponsor, has 5, 6 and 8 round quick strips for .38/.357... I like the 8 round ones personally. I load them; 2 rounds, space, 2 rounds, space, 1 or 2 rounds. The empty space aids in loading them two at a time and I can get a better grip on the longer strip...YMMV

I like the HKS for speed and ease of use and will carry them when the clothing allows. For "hard" concealment I carry the strips.

I have both, but usually just carry the strips. I've got a 5 shot snub...if I have to re-load in a SD situation, I'm probably hosed either way.
