I am new to pistols and don't know what brand is a quality brand. I want to buy full metal jacket 9mm for target practice and hallow point for carrying. What brands are quality that I should be buying?

What make of weapon have you decided on?

9 mm Ammunition comes in varying sizes:

    9 mm Kurz 9x17, .380 SAE.
    9 mm Makarov 9x18
    9 mm Luger 9x19
    9 mm Largo 9x23

The OP stated for a Glock 26, so it's a 9mm Lugar, Parabellum, etc.

Hey Munch? Good list you have there. I have tried some of them and they are fine. My problem is availability here local. I ran across some PMC Eldorado Starfire 124 gr. jhp on a shopping trip and bought some. Have not ran any yet, just wondering if anyone on this topic is familiar with them? Oh and I do have a G26 and more 9mm's. Thanks..

Add me for the GDHP 124gr+P, but I don't (technically) have a G26. My wife does. I've stoked it and her spare mag with Federal Tactical HST 124gr+P. She trusts me, and I look out for her best interest.

Gold Dots come in a short barrelled flavoured that would be great for the 26.

Ok so all that was helpful but still not sure what ammo to get. Grain refers to the weight of the bullet. The more grains the heavier the bullet. +P ammunition is refering to a shell that has been loaded by the manufacturer to almost maxumum chamber pressure level. In other words its a very hot (fast as compared to a non +P) round in terms of velocity. Basicly you have round nose or "ball" loads, hollow points, and soft points. (soft points generaly have an exposed lead tipped bullet.) Advantages are ball ammo feeds well in most all guns, even the ones that dont feed hollow points well and it penetrates targets well,, sometimes too well. (over penetration) Hollow points give the user the best expansion and stopping power prefromance but sometimes dont feed well, especially in older auto's. Soft points are kind of

That was answered in a few posts above, and I agree-124gr+P Speer GoldDot HP is an excellent defensive round for carry.

When I had a G26, my choice was standard pressure 147gr; either Gold Dots or Ranger.

Friends who still carry them also like the 124+P Gold Dot.

    I prefer either Federal 115 jhp (9bp) or Federal 115 jhp +p+ (9bple)

Both have a proven track record and both just happen to be the most accurate load I have found for both my 26 and 34
