I had an older model Remington 550 rifle that would feed anything you put in it. I used to drive roofing nails into fenceposts with it at 50yds. I have shot many squirrels, & varmits with .22 short hollow points. A let a guy talk me into selling it to him. It had not been shot in over 10 years, & we loaded it with shorts, CB's, long rifles, hollow points, etc., & it emptied the magazine w/o a failure. Note: Even a 22 can be noisy at night.
CB shorts out of a rifle to control noise, even an auto loader except it will be single shot; still can ricochet.
Auto pistol will be single shot and quieter than a revolver.

Shot placement. From a rifle at close range, doing your part, should not have any ricochet (other than inside a small cranium). Fur bearing rag doll.
