Warning - Unintended Consequences cover not family friendly
I ordered the book on the recommendations of others in another thread here. I was more than a little dismayed to open the box from Amazon to see that the cover art includes a rather well endowed woman topless. It's a pity John Ross didn't give more thought to the people receiving the book by mail at work, or the appropriateness of having something like this on the family bookshelf.
Maybe I'm a prude, but I'd rather not have a discussion with my wife or 10 year-old daughter about why we say modesty is important, but I am reading books with naked ladies on the cover.
Fortunately the dust jacket can be removed and thrown away.

Having dealt in the area of books for a good many years I think you may be blaming the wrong person. Established authors often get to have input on book jacket and covers, but first time authors very seldom do. Even if the book is a republication the chance that John Ross had anything to do with the jacket is very small. I did not think much of the jacket myself and removed it immediately upon receiving my copy 5 or 6 months ago. I would also say that the cover really does not portray the book's content. It is in fact misleading. A cover dealing with guns would have given a more accurate picture of the overall content of the book.

If you are having problems with the dust jacket you will have bigger problems with the colorful language and depictions of sex in the book.
I am not a prude, you say that maybe you are... IMO the female body naked is not something to be hidden, unless the depiction is pornographic and then should only be viewable by consenting adults, your daughter should not have to see pornography I agree, but the dust jacket is an artistic rendition of events within the book.
I live in moderately conservative Nashville, I say moderately conservative as some say it's a liberal cesspit and others think it is the buckle on the bible belt, we certainly have a lot of christians here - but from my perspective coming from London, nothing shocks me - there is a relatively new public statue here called 'Musica' (search it, if I link I will get chastised no doubt) that has created great controversy, it depicts nude figures dancing. No sex, just people dancing freely as nature intended.
I think the dust jacket depicts the violation of Lady Liberty by an ATF goon very well, it sat on my coffee table for months...

Redneck,
I was not insulting your friend. In most mainstream book stores, pornography is not allowed out on the "normal" shelves. A book with nudity on the cover is guaranteed to never hit the fiction section of Barnes & Noble, Borders, Waldenbooks, etc.
No matter who made the decision, it was a poor one (in my opinion) on more than one level. I'm not going to see a therapist because I saw a woman's breasts... but many of the guys on here have families. My post is simply a warning to be careful where you open it and dispose of the dust jacket if the content is something you'd rather not display.
Best,
Bob

It isn't pornographic, it is nudity. SCOTUS probably defined the difference for either Larry Flynt or Frank Zappa years ago...
Mainstream bookstores carry far more risque covers than UC, I'm guessing you don't look in the Erotic Fiction or Sexual Health sections too often.

Bobernet , my offer stands , as does my caution on the original post , if the dust jacket offends you dont open the cover . What ross deals with inside is worse than soft porn imho . and again pm me and ill buy the book from you if your offended . as of today i only have it in ebook form since i have gave away my hardbooks to folks .

Thanks for the offer, RR. If I find the content more than I want to keep around, I'll give you first crack at it.

Truthfully the cover is not bad at all.
Just my opinion on that. Opinions will naturally vary.
There are actually more square inches of skin showing on any DOVE or Lever Soap TV Commercial.
Nudity is not pornography.
Nudity in Art is a celebration and an exaltation of the greatest, most complex and amazing creation.
And that would be us in combination with the outer shell that we arrived brilliantly housed in.

Thanks QK, I thought maybe I was out there on my own for a minute...
IMO I could post the UC dust jacket picture here and not offend anyone, her arm covers one breast and her hair covers the 'offending article' on the other.
I didn't post it though as the ATF would probably kick my door in and seize my Mac...

Well, I piped up more than I should (nothing unusual there) because I didn't want anyone to think twice about buying the book based on this thread.
IMO everyone should read the book, and then get angry at what they read...

Here is an interesting page for folks to read concerning nudity in Art intended for the people who have religious concerns related to nudity in Art...and NO this is NOT a trick link.
There are no nude bodies or anything visually shocking on the linked page.
