    Thinking of trading my HiPower

I am thinking about trading my HiPower in on Colt Stainless 1911 38 Super...I love the way the HP shoots...but don't like carrying it due to the double stack mag...I can't get comfortable with it..I have a Milt Sparks OWB holster and a good belt... I like the flatness of the 1911's...am I nuts?? thanks Robbie

    Not nuts

I would try not to pick up a 1911 in 38 super though. IF you think 45 or 9mm are hard to find I couldn't tell you the last time I saw 38 super that wasn't a handload. (If you reload and would be supporting your own ammo disregard my comments for obvious reason's but brass is still a little tricky)

38 super is a great match gun. but you got to reload if you going to shoot it. hard to find any 38 super ammo in stores these days. and brass is harder to find. you are not going to pick it up at the range.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
What grips are on your HP? I have Uncle Mike's polymer on my .40 cal HP and 10-8 Performance grips on my 1911 and can't tell any difference with concealment.
Trust me, you will regret trading off a Hi-Power,

btw, if you do trade, can I have first shot at the Milt Sparks OWB holster.
    Please and thank you.

Too bad you're not a little closer...I'd love to make you an offer on the HP!

some guns are expendable, but there's some guns you just don't get rid of.

Surv...I am really beginning to believe that...I have a couple that I don't plan on getting rid of..HK P7 is one of them..that gun is scary accurate....this HP is awesome...I am thinking about trying an IWB holster and some thinner grips...I have been told that this will make a world of difference... I went to my brothers and compared the HP against 2 1911's and I really like the size of the HP better..feels more refined ( no digs against 1911's and yes these were Colts..one modern and one from 1918)...I am thinking I am gonna give this a try and if it dont work...somebody will get a heckuva deal on a nice HP and some holsters...thanks Robbie

I personally wouldn't trade a Hi Power for a 1911, but then I am biased.

Based on this post it sounds to me like maybe it's the holster that is the problem. What degree of cant are you using? If it's a 0 degree cant, vertical holster, maybe a 15 degree would suit you better?

I see that you are considering an IWB Holster. I have three of them that I use for the Hi Power. My most used is a Kramer IWB #3, but my most concealable is a Milt Sparks watch Six. Also, make sure you use a good quality belt. That's like the foundation of the concealed carry house and needs to be solid.

Good luck and keep us posted. I think that if you get rid of your Hi Power you will end up regretting it.

IMO, trading the HP would be a big mistake. I carry a BHP in a Milt Sparks #1 Heritage or a High Noon Tail Gate horsehide depending of the situation, and I do not have any kind of problems with it.

    Trade HP - No!

Don't do it! Try some new grips, I have thin black Micarta grips on my BHP and even though it is a double stack magazine those grips make for a slender grip.

Well, he should try some slimmer grips but, if the HiPower still does not feel exactly right for him (after that) then he should dump it and find a firearm that is more ergonomically suited to him.
I am all for getting rid of any self-defense carry gun that does not feel 100% correct in the hand of the individual that actually needs to carry it.
