    Thumbs up I Like It.

Well I finally made it out to shoot the SP101 with 3" barrel that I bought the first of Feb. Yea I know how could I have left it in the safe for a month and a half without even shooting it. The only reason that I went is because the neighbor finally broke down and bought a G30SF and I didn't want him to shoot a hole in the floor or wall or something playing with the thing before he got a chance to actually get some range time with it.

Anyway, so yesterday afternoon the neighbor, his dad (hasn't shot in 15 or 20 years but used to be an avid shooter) and I head out to camp and blow off some steam.

I started out with some 125 gr 38sp cast reloads that I made for the wifes 642, and man it was like shooting a .22. With the Hogue grips and the 3" barrel the thing barely moved when I shot it. Then I went to some Winchester factory 125 gr 38 sp fmj ammo and it was about the same as my reloads. Easy shooting, no kick. Both the reloads and the Win, dropped considerably when I stretched it out to about 40 yds or so, but that is to be expected.

Next tried some 158 gr cast 357 reloads that I have for just plinking. They were fine, a bit of a push, but very controlable and quick back on target. After that I went to some Winchester JHP 125gr 357, still quite manageable but a little bit more of a push than my plinking loads. Then I put in some 158 gr JSP 357 reloads. I was a bit anxious about these because I wasn't sure if they were the ones that I had loaded for hunting out of my wifes GP100 which produce about 700 ft lbs of energy. They were not them. A bit hotter than the 125 gr Win factory loads, but still not too bad. Finally I put in some Cor Bon 125 gr JHP 357. These were pretty hot but not unmanageable. For now these will be left in the chamber for SD until I come across something else that I like.

I did shoot some glaser rounds and some other 38 sp stuff that I had in the box just to use it up. Everything worked fine, and was accurate out of the gun. The thing that struck me as odd is I shot just as well DA as I did SA with the gun. I usually prefer SA triggers but the DA of the SP101 was quite nice. Everything was shot from about 10yds, and nothing that I could tell was off the 8 1/2 x 11 targets I was using.

Now the interesting thing. I just got in a Fist #12 for the 101, which is one reason I haven't taken it out to shoot it yet because I had nothing to carry it in. So I put a brand new Fist belt on which has been in the closet for few months, the new holster and the 101 which is wider than either of my Taurus's or my 1911 but for some reason it rides closer to me than the semiauto guns.

How does that work? A revolver with a wider dimension than the SA guns, prints less in a Tshirt. I think I have found a new summer carry gun. In the past I have been forced to wear button up shirts that hang loosely in order to carry without a cover garment, and it is too hot in Texas most of the year for a cover garment. But I honestly think this may work.

The one thing I do have to be aware of is, despite the comments in a previous post about clothing hanging on rubber grips and everyone saying that it doesn't, well t shirt material does hang on these Hogue grips so I do have to be aware of it, when in public. I can live with that though.

Did I mention that I really like this setup.

I just got a SP101 2"bbl Friday and still haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. Hoped I would get to today, but seems I have run out of available time and daylight.

I forgot to mention that the G30sf is now off the I want one list. I am not a Glock fan, can shoot most of them well, but don't really like them, but the 30 just doesn't fit my hands.

I was shooting very good groups but the grip is just not right for me.

I just shot my 2 1/4" SP101 a couple of days ago... They really handle the magnum recoil better than I thought they would. I changed the hammer spring and trigger return spring and it really smoothed out the trigger...

See if feeding it some of those little blue pills will help it out any.
