Not to muddy the waters, but is the Colt New Agent basically the same as the Defender with different grips and sights?

Basically, no sights, small shelf GI thumb safety, carbon steel. Colt New Agent

Colt is scheduled to release it in a DAO version later this year (first showed the pistol at the 2008 S.H.O.T. show).

    - Hmm. I've never owned a 1911, but I've been looking at the Colt New Agent. DAO just doesn't seem right on a 1911...

The knowledge dispersed on this site never ceases to amaze me. Thanks everyone.

I'll see if Don at the gun shop comes up with a decent price on a SA Micro within the next week. If not, then the Colt Defender it is.

I have to agree with you on that.
Colt tried it before, years ago, they didn't go over very well then either.

My Colt Defender has been 100% reliable. It is a great EDC piece.

My husband and I both have SA Micro Compacts with the 3" barrel. Many, many rounds later, not even a hiccup. No problems to report at all. We both love these guns and would buy another without a second thought.

Thanks for weighing in everyone. If I could just get a bit of a price break on the SA micro, I'd go that way. The darn $1200 is just a bit high for me. That's lots to spend on one firearm. And one that is going to be dinged and sweated on.

Ok, still haven't made up my mind after tons of research. Darn it!

    Here's the status.

Gunshop still has the Defender. Can't find any new SA Micros. Get the Defender today, or bid on Gunbroker on a used SA Micro.

Question...will the Defender accept my 7rd Springfield mags? I have 4 of them. The SA Micro only takes 6rd mags so I'd have to buy new ones for that and they wouldn't be interchangable unless I could put spacers on the bottom of the full-size mags I have. Is this correct? Anyone help me out here?

Also the Springfield has trijicon sights and extended/ambi thumb safety. An added bonus. I don't like the Hogue grips on the Colt and would spend $ on a new set of cocobolo grips and probably work in some tritium sights at some time.

If spending close to $1,000 wasn't such a big thing to me it wouldn't be such a problem. As it is, I hate agonizing over this decision but today is the day I make it. Any help from someone with the voice of experience would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, they will work in the Defender, they will hang out of the receiver a little though.
