Springfield Armory, STI, Colt, or Smith and Wesson. I personally carry a Kimber Pro TLE II, but there was a long period where I couldn't make it through an entire magazine without at least one malfunction. It did improve to the point where it's 100%, but you shouldn't have to go through this on a pistol you paid close to $1k for.

Hey congrats on" not putting a cig in your mouth and lighting it up..."
That is the line my social worker got into my head when I quit in 1991 after 19 years of" putting cigs in my mouth and lighting them up".
You deserve the reward of a new gun.

On to my suggestion bro, a Springfield Loaded, stainless. Damn what a gun, damn what a gun!

Edited to add: nothing wrong with Kimber. I have the Ultra CDP and it is great. Just that the Springer is much more a piece of steel in my hand then the Kimber.

Kimber, Springfiled, Rock Island--probably kind of like Ford, Chevy and Dodge trucks--EVERYBODY (regardless of brand)has a personal story--some good, some mediocre, some terrible.

Go to the gun store, try each one on for size and take home the one that fits your hand and has the best "feel" for YOU. If you have problems (and every piece of equipment has the potential for needing to be tweeked)--that's what customer service is for.

Definately do look into perhaps a Dan Wesson CBOB (Classic Bobtail). 4.25" barrel, all steel, all Ed Brown parts inside and out aside from the slide and frame, Match grade barrel. Everything is very high quality for something that isn't a real custom hand made weapon. Very high quality fit and finish. Comes with night sights.

    Nice slide to frame fit

You can read my thread about my experience with Kimber. While they didn't "hook" me up, they did give me a brand new gun that was tuned by Dennis in the Custom Shop.

I just bought a Kimber Custom 2, had it 3 months and 500 rounds it burning the powder great...I love it, but it is a big switch from the Glock 21 that I had 6000 rounds through. But easier to carry all day...

That a close look at the Daw Wesson 1911's. Hard to beat for a semi-custom platform. The Pointman 7 and CBOB's are outstanding.

As others have stated the RIA guns are nothing fancy but solid and very inexpensive in comparison to most other makes.

I couldn't agree more on the Dan Wessons. Much more gun for the money.

Yeah the SIG 1911s are pretty but troublesome. I would stay away, just based on my own experiences.... Springfields though are excellent.

I was either thinking about getting a snubbie for summer carry or a compact 1911(probably lightweight champion operator). I know the snubbie would give me a summer carry, but good lord do I love the feel of the 1911.
