AR15 Pistols
I just learned about these and they seem to be a viable option for HD. I have a few questions, especially concerning the buttstock or buffer tube. What;s the purpose of this tube? Does it aid or help stabilize the pistol when shooting it?? Is it adjustable in length or do they sell ones that are? What is the max length these tubes come in? Can this tube serve as a mock stock in that you can press it to your body, as long as you don't modify it in any way?

buffer tube holds the recoil spring and buffer. You can not put a buttstock on the AR pistol or it would make be a short barrel rifle for which you need a tax stamp for.
There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Heres the deal, I like the ar type pistol but I cant imagine I would be very accurate or as steady with one as I would be with a rifle that has a buttstock. However, I am thinking that the tube on an AR15 pistol should somehow enable me to be more steady if the tube is leveraged by your body and/or cheek and/or shoulder somehow.

The BATFE frowns on that sort of creativity.
I have a single point sling for my PLR-16 and pushing the gun forward agains the tension of the slings does a good job of stabilizing it for off hand shooting.

I have one I assembled myself and while it is a fun gun
and certainly a lethal weapon I would NOT make it
my first choice as a defensive weapon.
The noise and muzzle blast is greater than almost any
handgun and they are harder to shoot accurately than a
carbine.
Of course if you already have suitable pistols and longguns - go for it.

Thats a fact. It'll make your ears bleed if you shoot it without protection. The fireball can be impressive at night too.
Thery are fun to shoot but they are more of a novelty than anything else. I had one for awhile, got bored with it and traded it off.

Regarding the noise issue, has anyone reading this ever tried an AR15 pistol before and after installing one of those "flaming pig" flash hiders made by Noveske? This flash hider diverts the noise away from the shooter.
I used to scorn AR15 pistols, but the idea of a pistol that can share magazines with my HBAR has me re-thinking this.

I'd bypass the AR and buy a good 870 and slap a Knoxx stock on it. Load with OO buck and you have a much better home defense weapon.

I do have an 870, and a folding stock that can be installed when I feel the need. But, the 870 is a long gun, as is an AR15 carbine or rifle. Many places do not allow loaded long guns, but do allow loaded handguns. An AR15 pistol is therefore a "rule booker" for such environments.
Interestingly, in Texas, the opposite was true for over a century; until Governor George W. Bush signed the CHL bill into law, there was little way for private citizens to legally carry handguns in Texas, but long guns were OK, loaded or not, concealed or not, and still are. Folding-stock rifles and shotguns were very popular items in Texas before the CHL system was implemented.
I do agree, though, that for home defense, a long gun beats an AR15 pistol, because very few places should prohibit loaded long guns inside one's home. A real stock will be MUCH superior-handling than bracing a bare buffer tube against one's torso or neck.
