    First gun dilemma - Sig P228 v H&K P2000

My first gun might also be my last, so I want to make the right choice first time - for CC, HD and range work.

I have long admired the P228, fits my hand great, 13+ 9x19 capacity - perfect. So I was set on the Sig, but a gunshop convinced me to take a good look at the P2000 DA/SA.
Yep, the HK is ligher, a tad smaller and more logical decocker and mag release than the Sig in my opinion. Only problem is the plastic grip feels "slimey/slippery" and just not quite right.

No chance of shooting them in advance of purchase unfortunately.

What are your opinions of these 2 guns? Any great grip solutions available for the P2000?

Both are great guns, truly top of the line.

Can you conceal a gun the size of those two? I am assuming so, since you've narrowed it to those choices.

That said, if you're thinking polymer H&K, look at the new H&K P30. It's got what a lot of people say is the most ergonomic grip ever made, and it's very adjustable. Also, the price should be close enough not to sweat the difference.

I have both. I must say after a little under 3 years with the P2000 the trigger still sucks. Its very heavy double action. The gun itself is very light and accurate. There are also very few night site options. I have had my sig for just a few months and the trigger really smoothed itself out and is very easy to shoot. They both conceal about the same, but the p2000 is much lighter. If I could only keep one it would be the sig. I almost bought a p30 instead of the 228 but after feeling the triggers it was no contest. Although, if you were going to buy a lem version then I would almost lean more towards a p2000 or a p30. if you are going DA/SA I would say sig.

    Good luck!

HUGE fan of the P228. Ditto everything that's been said - the HK is lighter, the Sig has a better trigger and (for me) better ergonomics. I find the controls on the Sig to be more natural, but that's purely subjective.

In the end, you'll be very well served with either.

I have a P2000 and really don't have a problem with the trigger. It is not as smooth as my Glock 27, but with practice, you learn to shoot it very well. You really can't go wrong with either choice though. They are both fine weapons.

I have the P228...it is an awesome combat gun. It WILL make you a better shooter. I love it. Go with your first instinct, get the 228. You wont be sorry.

P228, was my EDC for 4 years. The accuracy for a compact model is very impressive. Try to find one of the older P series, I've heard that the newer guns are not the same as the older models.

Of those two...I'd go Sig.OMO (everyone has one)

Off hand, I'd say go with the one that "feels" more comfortable.

And who are you kidding about being the last pistol you buy?

He speaks the truth. In early January I bought my father a late Christmas present, an XD 40 sub compact. Later that month, I bought myself a Sig 229. Earlier this month I bought a Kimber. It's an addiction you can't and won't fight, at least in my case since I don't have a wife.

Mec-Gar makes some 15 round magazines for the 228/9 that are physically identical to the stock 13 rounders, no protrusions from the grip or anything. I bought three from TopGunSupply and have had zero issues.

So I guess I'm saying, buy the Sig.

Thanks guys - looks like the P288 has won by a fair margin! I'll let you know how it goes.

    The one you shoot best.

Rent them, an do 100 rounds through each, at least 2 or 3 times.

    Either is excellent.
If you like both, go with the best price.

    Buy both.
