New Springfield GI

Love it! Forged frame & slide, lifetime warranty, great price and parkerized to boot, what's not to like! I put plastic grips on mine and will probably replace the mainspring housing to get rid of the ILS. I had a problem with a misfitting barrel that was raising a burr inside the slide. I sent it back to Geneseo and they fixed it pronto with a new stainless barrel. Not quite as retro looking but I like it. I found that I can feed cast lead semi wadcutters in mine without a hitch with a different magazine I already had. Not a high dollar one either.

good old school 1911. hard to beat and it will do the same job as the high dollar guns.

Mine was an early model with brown plastic grips.The pistol has eaten any kind of HP and ball ammo I fed her.
I don't like all the crap they put on 1911's now,I'm just an old fashioned guy.

Don't get me wrong....a tricked-out Kimber or Wilson Combat is, to me, a work of art......I just feel the "bare bones" 1911 doesn't NEED "improvement"....
Does a Corvette PERFORM better because it has "racing stripes"??
My SA Loaded doesn't shoot any better than my Colt Government with iron sights....

Is it a new gun? I didn't realize that Springfield ever made guns in Brazil. Interesting.

Good looking. I looked at that when I go into my weekly 1911 dreams. After my M&P, I WILL get a cheap 1911. Springfield along with RIA is on the list for me.

for a while now. The 1911's are anyway. Still every bit one of the best out there.

I'm sure I'll hear it if I'm wrong, but I heard most if not all Springfields are manufactured in Brazil and assembled in the USA. Anyone?:hand29:

The XDs are made in Croatia, the 1911 platforms are manufactured in Brazil and some models are assembled in the US. If less than 51% of the assembly is preformed here, they are stamped Made in Brazil. That is why you see some models stamped Made in Brazil and the others have the Geneseo Illinois stampings.

OD, if you do not mind I would like to ask you something; do you sleep with a 1911’s handbook under the pillow? Or perhaps I should say the entire library. I guess that it is not totally wrong if I assume that you are a huge 1911 fan :smile:

That sounds very good! Hopefully it should not end costing as much as a real WWII USGI M1911A1. Did you ever check if it would be too expensive to do?

I like the traditional look and the price point and love my SA1911, though it is a Loaded. The only thing that concerned me about the GI was the "no extended tang" and the smaller ejection port... Maybe fast acquisition of the sights... I am not sure why, it doesn't seem to affect function and has been that way for years... I guess sometimes we buy into the "extras" when many times the classic will do just fine!

Makes me desire a GI! They have some good models at that level, commander, lightwieght, compact...
