    New Springfield GI

Went to the Gun Shop today to pick up a WWI Colt 1911 I was having shipped in and while there I talked myself into grabbing this, a nice inexpensive GI shooter to add to the collection.

very nice. 1911 pistols, I think, will be for the 20th century, what the Colt SAA was for the 19th. Functional nostalgia.

    That's for me!
I don't need no $$$$$ stinking Kimber or other mega dollar 1911. Give me what worked for my dad on Tinian! (His was a Remington model.)

Well actually, Kimbers are pretty nice, but yes...they are pricy.

My dad was also on Tinian and Saipan, but no 1911's, they used bulldozers to bury the 'enemy'alive...bad times.

My EDC is a Kimber (I guess my avatar evaded you ), but I love the 1911 platform in all forms and have several.

I really wanted a new Colt GI (01991) as a shooter but they've been hard to come by lately and cost a good penny more (I got the Springfield for $550). They do have a Colt 01918 I could get at a decent price ($950), but it's a little more than I want to spend just for a GI shooter and I'd be scared to shoot it much as it will one day be a collectible just like their 01911 replica of a few years ago.

    Congratulations, nice pistol.

With a few minor parts changed, you could really have it looking like a WWII USGI M1911A1 (if that's what you were seeking).

I'm waiting to get the same gun but only the Champion (4" barrel) size. Been looking high and low. It's the "last" gun on my life's list of guns I want to have.

Beautiful gun. Let us know how it shoots and enjoy!!

I purchased one about seven months ago and found it to be good quality, extremely reliable and a great shooter right out of the box. I do have a little trouble with some hollowpoint types but no problems with FMJ's.

Congrats on your new Spirngfield. I just got mine 2 weeks ago. I wanted the old G.I. military style without the Colt price tag. This one is getting some rounds down the tube, no safe queen here.

I've found the 1911 for me!!!! Thanks for the post. I like it a lot!!! Nostalgic, simple, functional, and beautiful without a lot of flash and flare.

I've never fancied myself with a basic Gi model 1911. Always get suckered in for beavertail, bobtail, polished stainless, skeleton triggers etc.

    But it's a good shooter I'm sure.
