    Finally got it....

After five months I am now an armed citizen of the state of NY. Got my final permit last Thursday, right before I left for DC for Rolling Thunder. I did not serve oveseas, but I am a Viet Nam Era Vet, so seeing the Wall for the first time was very moving. Anyhow I got home on Monday, and registerd my gun and picked it up on Tuesday. I now carry a Smith&Wesson model 4013 .40 cal auto. I have not had a chance to fire it yet, but am very happy none the less. I am still a little nervous about carrying in general, and more nervous about carrying with one in the chamber. I'm sure these things will pass in time.

RK - just checking again - and hoping you have managed to get the gun shot in.

For sure, carry without proving the gun is not that good of an idea. A coupla hundred rounds thru even and 100% function does at least ensure what you have will do what is needed, if needed!

    congrats.
I am glad you have made the decision to cc. I uneasiness of carrying and also carrying with one in the tube will pass. I think most of us here as had the same feeling. But if you don't carry the gun ready to use, it is essentially an expensive rock to throw at someone. Most encounters occur and are over in less than 7 seconds, IMO not enough time to unholster the firearm and make it ready to fire.
I hope you get to the range and become more familiar with your new S&W. range time will lessen your uneasiness about your carry issues. Congrats on your decision to CC, and glad to have you on the forum.
There is alot of knowledge and resources here, and we are glad to have you as a part of that.
Bud mentioned a holster rig. if you haven't gotten one, this is essential to ensure you carry consistently. A good belt and holster make concealing and carrying the 2-3 lb weight all day. we have some great holster/belt makers here on the forum. I have a gary brommeland max con V with belt and love it.
congrats again, and hope to "talk" to you more soon

shoot the gun, shoot the gun, and carry one in the chamber.
