.380. i know that the keltec has been around a while but the ruger is real hot right now. what about reliability? both are very simular in price. i guess the reliablility is everything.

I (and I own one) would go for the LCP. It WILL need about 150 rounds through it to get it running well. Use round-nose ammo for that.
You can google, KTOG for indepth info on the P-3AT and Elsie Pea Forun for the LCP. Honestly both of the guns are very good. The LCP has a better finish and overall feel. And you may need the 'Fluff and Buff" routine on the barrel feed ramp. Some do, some don't. No problems here.
I had a P-3AT, it was ugly and broke twice. After the second trip back to the factory I traded for an LCP. I have had no problems with the LCP and it is a much more attractive firearm. IMHO... LCP wins hands down. I will probably never own another Kel-Tec just based on that experience.
I have a P3AT and I am happy with it. I have handled and shot the LCP and find the two to be about the same. I will be buying a LCP when I return home as the wife saw the rasberry and said she "had" to have it!
I have both and both have been 100% reliable. Both are more accurate than they need to be. The Ruger has a more finished look and smoother feel. So a slight edge to the LCP.
I bought the LCP, because I liked the fit and finish better than that of the keltec. If you want to save some $.. buy the keltec. Both are great little pocket pistols from a reliability standpoint. I will comment that the site picture on both of these pistols is difficult to pick up quickly. I am not a "laser guy", but I did put a crimson trace on my LCP, and love it.
My 1st Gen P-3AT has served me well for many years, and without any problems. It has been a dependable, easily concealable, not fun to shoot at the range, gun.
"Give this to, uh, Clemenza. I want reliable people, people who aren't going to be carried away. After all we're not murderers in spite of what this undertaker thinks."
