Working on Scandium framed pistols.

I thought I would post this information here. In case you are worried about getting your Scandium 1911 worked on to add custom features that would require cutting or milling the frame, here is the quote from the email I got from an engineer at S&W:

"The Scandium is in the metal of the frame, not the finish."

This would eliminate the concern or need to re-anodize the frame for hardness. The Scandium is part of the aluminum forging, not a coating. This means that you can get the gun refinished in whatever finish that you like after the work is done without any concern over anodizing like some of the other aluminum framed pistols. FYI.

May not be true for the titanium cylinder.

The finish on the cylinder is there to stop gas erosion if I remember right. If that finish is removed, the Ti will erode.

Please bear in mind that I was just talking about 1911s. I don't work on revolvers yet so I would not have occasion to know. There were questions on some other forums about whether or not the frames could be bobtailed without having to worry about getting the frame anodized again.
