Help me decide which 1911 .45

I've saved enough funds to get a new 1911 .45 and have narrowed my search down to 3 choices. I'm leaning toward the Commander size with a light weight frame. I'm looking for a shooter for the range than can also be carried comfortably. I already have 2 Glocks, a 19 & 27 as well as an XD Compact .45 that serve as my primary carry guns.

Here's what I'm looking at so far...I would like to keep price around $1200 or less.

Springfield Loaded Champion like this one: Springfield Armory

Smith & Wesson 1911 PD like this one: Product: Model SW1911PD Pistol

Kimber Pro CDP II like this one: Kimber > 1911 Pistols > CDP II > Pro CDP II™

Other: fill in the blank with your suggestion

    Thanks
    Proud NRA member

Springfield Loaded, and don't look back!
I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry.

I like the SW. True Commander length. Feels great. Very light.

Though I do like Springfield as well, I am less than enthralled with the Champions. Early problems with them left a bad taste in my mouth and I like the 4 1/4" barrel of the SW and Colt Commanders more than the 4". Im not sure why everyone has decided to go that route these day.

As for Kimber, it is a great gun. I think you get more for what you pay for with the Smith though.

I had the Kimber Pro CDP, and it was a great firearm and gave me no problems. It was, however, the earlier version with the 'external' extractor...it was traded for a Compact CDP with an internal extractor.

Well if you like the classic look Go Smith... if you like the newer look Springfield.... if you like the name brand kind of stuff Kimber. I like the classic look so my vote is Smith. but it seems to me (and I know I'll take crap for this) but a good 1911 is the same as the next good 1911) your just paying for the sticker/name....

At least I will agree with that. 1911s are becoming like ARs. They are all the same yet priced differently.

I have no experience with some the more custom jobs like Ed Brown, Wilson, or Les Baer.

I voted for the Sprinfield as that's on my list of wants as well. I'm not sure how I feel about the Kimbers, although all that I've shot were great and none of my friends who own them have problems.

+1 to Brady's suggestion for the Dan Wesson CCO...that would jump to my first choice...IF I COULD FIND ONE. They seem to be hard to come by. I do love my DW CBOB...but the lighter frame and slightly shorter grip on the CCO would make it just a bit more comfy & concealable on long days.

I voted "other" as in Dan Wesson CBOB or a Colt Commander in any of the models.

I do love my Kimber CDP Pro II, but I'm not fond of the Swartz trigger safety. The Springer gets my nod for robust design free of gimmicks like that or Colt's Series 80 trigger block.

I voted Springfield. Looks like it has improved sights over the S&W, it's .5" shorter and sports a match grade trigger (maybe just a sales pitch, though. The S&W didn't say anything about the trigger) and the difference in weight is only 2 ozs.

I've heard as many bad things about Kimber as I have about Taurus... I'm just sayin'...
