Disappointed: S&W 9c sight issue
Well I was at the range today, putting round numbers 200-300 through my new S&W 9mm Compact and after the 10th shot I went to adjust might sight picture......and the white dot had fallen out of the front sight
I was shooting in grass so there was no way to find the piece, but am pretty disappointed. This is one of my favorite pistols, and I shoot it better than any other gun I own. Has anyone had this problem with their S&W? Should I call Smith and tell them about the problem? Should I just put a drop of white out in there to fill the hole?

Both, for now. S+W will likely want to make good and will ask for the slide as a minimum, or the whole pistol. But for now, if it's your defense too, go ahead and put a dab or whiteout on it. OR - easier to deal with - cut a small piece of red or white vinyl tape and wrap that around your front sight.

I'd give them a holler, I would be suprised if they did not make good on that.
If it was a 3-4 yr old pistol, then maybe.
I have one, and another 2 in my brothers family, with no problems

I had to send a Sigma back and they were awesome with turn around time and they were very helpful.

S&W's customer service is top notch and they always look to make right. Give them a call and see what they offer...you never know..they may end up giving you some fun upgrades for your trouble.

That sounds like a good idea. Where do you get Dayglo Orange?
UPDATE: I called S&W this morning and they offered to send me out a new front sight. That's all well and good, but I guess now I have to pay someone to install it for me? I was happy with their customer service, and am glad I don't have to send anything off to them. How much is normal for someone to replace the front sight? And I'm hoping it doesn't happen again with the new sight....

Replacing a sight is easy. However I would just paint the dot and be done with it.
There is something about firing 4,200 thirty millimeter rounds/min that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Use a round toothpick with Testors White enamel paint (or white nail polish). Thoroughly clean the sight first with alcohol and make sure it is dry. Shake the paint thoroughly then place a "dot" of paint in the hole with the round toothpick. Lightly wipe the sight to remove any over flow. Stand the gun on the muzzle and let dry for a day. Easy fix and the result will be as good as factory. No need for cusotmer service or gun down time.

Ya you guys are right, model paint is the fix. At least I'll have an extra front sight I guess....
Looks like this might be some good stuff to put on the front sight of the Ruger SP101 I plan to buy when I get my tax return! As he says to the wife "I'm just doing my part to boost the economy, it's only fair."
