    XD sub-compact 9mm vs 3.8 9mm?

    I'm a tad confused. There's a subcompact and a 3.8, both 9mm?

The XD to me carries better and felt better to hold than the glock. Just wanted to make sure I was understanding. See if there was a diff in the two that was drastic?

the sub compact has a 3" barrel, the 3.8 has a 3.8" barrel, and the service model has a 4" barrel.

IMHO the 3.8 has no real benifit (shorter barrel doesnt really affect concealability). I carry the 4" model everyday.

What's diff between xdm and xd? This seems to be the only line of pistols giving me a headache to figure out what's what.

the xdm is the new version, around $100 more, you get adjustible grip size, and a match grade barrel. To me, it wasnt worth the extra money for the (M) but some people swear by them.

i forgot to mention the XD comes in compact too. which is the 4" barrel with a subcompact grip (probably the best setup for CC)

check out springfieldarmory.com and you can compair all of them.

I agree with Bfunk... The XDm is not worth the extra money. I carry my XD9sc daily and love it. I've got the flush fitting 13 rd mags, plenty...carry a spare mag if you want more. The XDm 3.8" has a slightly shorter barrel (obviously)than the 4" standard XD models...but a much longer grip when compared to the sub-compact model....grip length, IMO, is the biggest factor in concealment. I doubt that the 3.8 vs. the 4" would have different ballistics. I really think they did that backwards with the XDm..I would have bought an m if they made the grip shorter as opposed to the barrel. I've also handled my friends XD45 Compact....the grip length was slightly longer than the sub-compact gip, slightly. He also has the XDm....I found their concealability, for me, in a supertuck, to be in this order: Sub, Compact, XDm. I love my sub-compact...I'd consider a Compact in .45 and have no personal interest in the XDm..JMO.

I'll go take a look. At work now on phone haha.

I like subcompact. My sr9c is about as large as I'd ever go.

And I prefer 9mm. Thanks for the help!

I have the XD 9mm 4in, ive shot the subcompact too, personally i like the 4 in better although they shoot about the same. As far as the XDm goes ive been told the only difference is a 100 dollars and the magazine holds 2 extra rounds. and it has a different grip

There's a good story on the XD vs XDm in the current American Handgunner.

The 3" subcompact will hide better with the shorter grip. The XDM has a long handle = harder to hide. They're both great guns, but if you want ease of hiding go with the XDSC.

I have the XDm 9mm and the XDm 3.8 9mm and love them both. They shoot the same for me. The XDm 3.8 is my daily carry. I carried the full size XDm for about 6 months before I bought the 3.8 and dispite what others say who havent carried both I find the 3.8 to be more comfortable to carry. Yes ... the grip length is the same but the shorter length in barrel does seam to make a difference in comfort. YMMV.

Not having owned the "basic" XD I can't say if the XDm is worth the extra $100 but I sure don't regret spending the extra money for it.

The subcompact is next on my list although I have grown real fond of the 3.8 XDm for daily carry. It's hard to get over the 20 round capacity.

The xd9 sc in green is AMAZING looking. I'll have to get over to my local gun shop and hold one of these xd9sc's.

The glock was to large for my liking, this looks like it's shaping up to be the next conceal weapon (just got my first a few weeks ago, already 500+ rounds thru her).

Not sure about the pricing of the OD green model...but I do recall there is a slight price difference for the bi-tone models w/stainless slide over the all black.
