Quick Question from a BRAND NEW Ruger LCP owner

Hello everyone -

After HOURS of research, I decided on the LCP and purchased one yesterday. Haven't had an opportunity to shoot at all, but one cosmetic/aesthetic issue (that is slightly functional) is bothering me. I searched through hundreds of previous topics, but I didn't hit the right spot, I guess!

The magazine catch latch, as it is referred to in the manual, seems to be off. Is it supposed to be flush with the right side of the pistol when a magazine is seated?

The placement seems to be 1/16" or so off. Granted, the one I purchased is the only one the shop had and I didn't get a chance to compare it to another sample. This might sound picky, but when the gun is gripped there is almost a hole on the right side of the weapon. I'll be happy to post photos, but I'm unsure if a photo will show the issue very well.

I just checked my LCP. The magazine release button isn't flush on the right side of the grip. It's actually indented a little bit on mine when a magazine is inserted.

Maybe it's just my OCD or something, but am I the only one that is annoyed. Every time I grip the pistol, I feel the "hole" for some reason. I guess it's a "fit and finish" issue that I need to adjust to. Guess I've held super smooth Sigs for too long!!

The LCP is definitely a function over form gun. It's finish is better than the Kel-Tec P3AT... but it's not exactly the nicest .380ACP. I'm not bothered by it's finish, but I really hate the trigger. But then again, I'm comparing it to my Kahr P380.

Just checked my LCP and mine is the same as yours. I have never noticed that gap until you mentioned it and now, thanks to you, I notice it every time I pick it up.

Mine is the same and I never even noticed it.....so I guess it is safe to say it hasnt bothered me.

Had a LCP and hated the trigger, Got a Sig P238 Equinox and sold the Ruger I had gotten for my wife. She now has a P238 on order.

At least it won't dump the mag by mistake when you grip it, works for me.

For the money, I don't think you can find a better pistol.

One thing you should note with the LCP. The mag catch on the LCP is made of plastic. If you want it to last, you should depress the mag release everytime you push a mag into place.

I wasn't aware of this having just become an owner yesterday, but I will keep it in mind.

One thing the LCP is not, is a SIG. Mine seems to be the same as yours.

Try shooting it a few times and see if it continues to "bother" you.

Mine has been 100% reliable.

Thanks a million for all the responses guys!! Just making sure I didn't get a dud!!

I looked at the P238, because I love Sig to death, but the guys here in town wanted way too much money for them. I'll let the "newness" wear off and I'll pick one up.

As for the LCP, so far, it's been a perfect carry gun. This weekend, I wore some light athletic shorts and the LCP rode in a little leather Bianchi clip holster that I think I had from owning a Beretta Tomcat several years back. The gun was light and comfortable and I was happier by the minute. I would have normally been unarmed, so MISSION ACCOMPLISHED for under $300 bucks!! What else could you ask for?
